Grow Mediums Going LOCO for that coco! what nutes should i get?

Don't know about the Greenhouse, but I was also going to suggest the Canna Series, not from personal experience but from seeing others have success with it. :)

Trapper the Greenhouse Stuff is simply said like if u use a whole Fertilizer line... the only thing i add is Root Juice and some Cal cause they forgot to add cal there is enough Mag in there. I like it cause i got all in one and it boosts Resin production to the Max on the Plants.

Hey Trapper, just wanted to wish you good luck with the foray into coco. I can echo the words of the chap who said about the extra cal/mag. I got to say that my first/current grow with coco is pretty much a disaster. It is nothing like growing in soil. But, hey, its all good learning.

Good luck chum, eP.

I cant even consider AN guys thats why i didnt list it, we dont have it around here. how do i check if i have hard or soft water if i choose to go with ghe?

Hey KK

You need an EC meter. Some around here use PPM meters but EC is far far far better, so skip PPM completely and go straight to EC.

In my opinion 'soft water' = tap water that has an EC of 0.4 or less. That means it has less micro nutrients in it, like calcium and magnesium. 'hard water' = tap water with 0.5 EC or higher... mine is 0.7 EC.
If you live in the UK or Ireland chances are you have hard water. If you boil the kettle and get build up in the kettle, or if you have lime scale issues chances are you have hard water. If you don't know what a kettle is or lime scale, chances are you don't live in the UK or Ireland so I can't really help you :) Except to say "GET AN EC METER"

PEACE BROTHER

Good luck with your coco growing and feel free to PM me any time with question. If I know the answer I'll tell you. :)

GHE and h3ad's formula (1.6ml micro and 2.4ml of bloom / liter) is the easiest for coco. I'm currently trying AN Jungle Juice micro and bloom, but the results are pretty much identical to the GHE Micro and Bloom. Never had any cal/mag issues in coco.

[edit] Following the instructions in the bottles usually gives bad results.

[edit2] The advanced nutrients jungle juice micro and bloom are advertised as replacements for the GHE micro and bloom, the AN bottles cost a couple of euros less, but apparently do not contain the silicate that the GHE nutrients has built in, so if you're gonna use AN jungle juice, get a bottle of silicate as well, I use Growth Technology Liquid Silicon.

It could be the differences in our tap water. As calcium and magnesium are the two most abundant chemicals in tap water, after water itself. I was using an RO filter at the time to reduce the background EC of my tap water and ended up having to replace a lot of the missing cal/mag as coco especially when you first start using it (i.e. in the first few weeks) holds onto calcium. It's something to do with the cation exchange capacity of coco which makes coco a great grow medium but also means it's a calcium hungry little bitch :) Best practice is to have Cal/mag on hand just to be safe.

Also because I was really interested in the Lucas formula back then I discovered that the numbers on the bottles of the general hydroponics europe (GHE) are not the same as the general hydroponics bottles in America. I personally had such a god awful experience with the Lucas ratio (which I really really wanted to work and spent far too much time researching) using GHE products I'd stay well away from it. When I was using all three of the 3-part Grow, Micro, Bloom I had pretty decent results. When I switched to just the Micro and Bloom (as is called for in the Lucas ratio) the plants were very deficient.

Great info i appreciate that, ill sure pm you dear friend :)

I've never needed an EC meter when handwatering coco, never needed an EC meter with DWC either though.. When formulas work, they work really well.

i think ill go canna guys, any info? should i really have the whole set?

Canna Coco a + b then i would defo advise the Rhizotronic Root Juice and for end of flowering the pk 13/14 also good i use it with every fert line is the Canna Flush it really helps you to bring down the ec to 0.1 before harvest.
