Hey everyone. I'm starting a Think Different grow and will be using soil/soiless as my medium. I need help choosing a soil. My local hydro shop carries dozens of soil, soiless, and other mediums and it's overwhelming.

I have it "narrowed" down to these:
BioBizz Light Mix
Pro-Mix BX
Pro-Mix HP
Sunshine Mix #4

Just Right Xtra
Roots Organic
Ocean Forest
Happy Frog
Sunshine Advanced Mix #4

I would love to hear anything you have to say about any of these, and I want to know what you love/hate and what you use.

Thanks yall.. the hydro shop carries tons of amendments too so I can also buy extra essentials to keep my plants happy.

The bio bizz would be my first choise and the pro-mix the second choise or the ocean forest is quite popular mate. if you wana control your mediums nutes the bio bizz works wonders :smokebuds:

thanks si, yeah that's what attracted me to it in the first place. And many people here love that shizz.. one question about it.. is that safe to start seeds in? I would assume it is since it dont have a bunch of nutes in it but just tryina make sure

hey south.

im currently growing with FFOF/HF 50/50 mix.
- had some nutrient lock out with the ph at 5.0
- had to add some dolomite lime to the soil to fix the problem.

will definitely give it a try again tho and just add some dolomite lime to fix it up (just to finish the rest of my soil)

ive read/followed journals using biobizz all mix // light mix both with great results.

my current soil option to try next would be:

pro mix
ss #4 / ss advance #4 ( i believe this are the same but advance is just -- advance and more improved?)
bio bizz

in no particular order.

just been reading a lot of good things with those soil from all my research (and still continuing to research)

Perfectly fine mate from seed to harvest. if you do get bio bizz remember it contains little if no nutes so i usualy feed a very small dose of nutes as soon as i get a first set of true leaves usualy around day 7-10 then i up the nutes every feed if they take to it, till i get the max dose for there veg stage:thumbs:
If you do go with the BIzz products hit me up if you need any help or have any questions about it.. Also with bio bizz you dont have to PH your feed if its between 5.7 and 7.2 as the soil will buffer it to the correct level..

Yeah I've read of that problem happening to fox farm soils, something to do with a quality control issue. The ocean fresh was my first choice because a lot of threads online use that type of soil with success, but I didnt want to take the chance of it screwing with my plants.

I use roots organic from seed to harvest and would buy again!

south... if you are as new as you seem, you are asking for advice in an unsafe area... when you ask for advice in a common area like this one, you are going to get conflicting advice and you really have no way of knowing who to listen to. If you want to be safe, with guaranteed excellent results, head over to the New Growers forum. There are moderators assigned specifically to assist new growers and they are all approved by AFN as competent teachers.

I don't mean this as any negative reflection on anyone who has already posted advice. But, to make my point, the following mixes have already been suggested out of just seven posts... FFOF/HF (with extra dolomite-how much?), Roots Organic, Biobizz, Pro-Mix, and if you left the thread up another day or two, you'd get more...

It's your choice...

Hey south, Mr Dirt knows his soils and is full of good advice. Why don't you stop by his part of the forum and have a look see at different soils and soil recipes?

Here's a link to true living organic soil mixes. Just use dechlorinated water the entire grow:
https://www.autoflower.org/f59/tlo-super-soil-recipes-10566.html

Here's a soil mix from another mod and breeder on AFN:

And finally here's a thread discussing bagged soils:

It also never hurts to get online and check reviews with google. I do it, usually helps.
