After a break from growing, and a little detour down the at the Mushroom, I thought I'd start up a small grow again. I bounce between hydro and soil, and I chose soil this time mainly because I didn't want to set up the hydro equipment. I wanted something colorful this time, and Sweet Seeds Dark Devil was the missus favorite.

I wanted to get growing as soon as possible, so I ordered a few bagged soils to try out.

From top to bottom:
  • Coast of Maine Stonington Blend - I've read good things, wanted to give it a try. Added 10% perlite
  • Fox Farm Happy Frog - I chose Happy Frog over Ocean Forest as I've read latter can be a bit hot. Added 10% perlite
  • Roots Organic Lush - Also read good things, wanted to give it a try. Added 10% perlite

I mixed in my perlite and water. The Coast of Maine didn't need much water, while the Fox Farm was bone dry.

Equipment:
  • 3'x3' AC Infinity tent and 4" fan/filter combo
  • PLC cx300 (340w Cree Cobs 3500k)
  • 3-7 3 gallon fabric pots
  • 6" clip on fan
  • RO Water
  • Megacrop 2 part
  • Cheap PH pen and TDS meter

I gave my seeds and overnight soak in RO water, then into the peat pucks they went this morning. Hopefully we'll have 7 beautiful little sprouts in a couple days.

We only need 3, but I'm prepared to squeeze all 7 in if they sprout. I'll also be using MegaCrop 2 part later on in the grow, and we may stick these on a perlite wick bed.

Day 2
We have 4 above soil today, and 2 more in a few hours probably.

Got our seedlings potted up. Front to back is Coast of Maine Stonington Blend, Roots Organic Lush, and Fox Farm Happy Frog.

The front net pot has the remaining Dark Devil, waiting to see if it pops up. The middle net pot is a photoperiod freebie, Dirty Bird Genetics Tacky Glue x Unicorn Poop, in FFHF.

Week 1
We're on Day 7 above soil now. Haven't needed to water them yet, just a bit of misting periodically.

Fox Farm 1 and 2. FF2 popped up upside down with the taproot sticking out, she was reburied and popped back up on day 5.

Week 1.5 Brown spots continued
Coast of Maine 2 looking worse today. Spots getting bigger and she's twisted.

My first thought on the issue is low ph and/or root rot. Any second opinions?

Week 2
End of week 2 is here. Coast of Maine 2 issues are rapidly progressing. CoM 1 looks alright still, gonna treat CoM 2 as root rot and hit her with some h2o2.

Installed our perlite wick bed a couple days ago. We only put Roots Organic 1 and Fox Farm 1 on it to see how they do and am keeping an eye on CoM 1 for similar issues to CoM 2

Fox Farm 2, who came taproot up first and was reburied. She's actually only on Day 9, and a bit derpy.

Day 16 First feeding
Gave the 2 Fox Farm Happy Frog and the 2 Roots Organic Lush 300 ppm of megacrop 2 part.

Day 16

We noticed some minor clawing on the Coast of Maine 1. Did not feed her. She hasn't needed to be watered yet either, unlike the Fox Farm and Roots Organic. Seems to retain more water.

Coast of Maine 2 was hit with h2o2 a couple days ago. Plucked the dead leaves at the bottom and noticed a small spot on the tips.

Some curling seen on Roots Organic 1. Both RO1 and Fox Farm1 seem fine on the wick bed.

Fox Farm Happy Frog 1. It's too early for purple right?

Week 3
Saw what looked like low ph spots on Roots organic 1. Crawled up into the attic to find the good pH pen.

We gave 1-4 the ponytail treatment for a couple days, then just a little leaf tucking.
