simple thing really but not a lot of info on how you actually wet the substrate. Do you pour it on, if so how fast or slow, do you go in sequences? I am using a garden sprayer right now the one gallon one. It seems to wet the substrate slowly and evenly, but takes forever esp if I am doing a mid season flush. I've tried the pouring method. I don't like how it compacts the top and the perlite can float up to the top. I am going to start exp with aact soon, is a sprayer going to hurt its application?

I use a 1.5ltr bottle with holes drilled in the top but my pots are only 5ltres so that is enough water for a little run off. If my pots dry out too much then it can take 5-10 minutes to water. Water a bit, wait a minute ,and water again. Otherwise it goes straight through lol. I do 2 or 3 pots in rotation so that while I'm waiting I start another.

Check out my grows.

the soil can become compacted a bit mid/late grow, making watering a real bugger at times.
it may not be advisable but i stab the bejesus outa the top with a dart, not a jocky wilson dart just a thin pointy thing.
good luck.

if your soil is locked up try soaking it in a few gallon bucket untill the bubbles stop with a bit of castile soap or aloe flakes as a surfactant. your welcome to try a watering with a nice amount of surfactant but soaking gets all the nooks n crannies. or it could be lacking a texture which is harder to deal with,. but that'll work for watering it well.

jocky wilson that old school, not heard that name for many years bro. i grow in coco & watering is easy.
sometimes i start seeds incoco/soil mix, i dont have feed nuts for first 2 weeks then i repot to bigger pot with only coco.
this works great for me. everyone got their own way off growing.

When I grew in soil in airpots, like @archie gemmill, I would aerate the soil first then like you I used a garden sprayer except I removed the spray tip to speed things up a bit.

Hey that's great info there about the h2o2 for non aged water. And I'm going to try your water bottle watering technique. I assume you cut off the would be bottom of the bottle, and that becomes the fill?
