There was a follow-up video where Clive figured out it was the blank .22 cartridge that was blowing the circuit open. The carbon plug was to provide the heat to set off the primer in the .22.

Got some new buddies for my ongoing circus show muah ha ha next step... add water feature. All one off glass art, hopefully they will get more at the shop since my collection of shit is ever expanding.
