Grow Room JD's Coco Micro SoG.

Mate do you know what that lens is on the lights? Also are they single die cobs or a bunch of separate leds?

If theyre separate leds you should probably take the lenses off, it will create very diffuse light that mixes just below the fixture...

I use multiple 13w screw ins with the diffuser off right above my canopy and do not suffer from light burn, those bulbs are much brighter than yours.

Also removing the lens will increase UV, which can be a good thing. Certainly i havent seen any issues.

Hey, mate. I don't know what the angle is on the lens, but it's pretty narrow. These are eagle eyes leds for car headlights. I think they are 60 or 90 degrees, pretty focused which probably is my problem here.
There are 3 dies per cob but I don't think I can remove the lens without damaging the cobs as they are waterproof with a very tight seal. I managed to open one that failed a while ago and the only way I could remove the lens was by pushing from the inside of the casing after I removed the cob. The lenses are secure with silicone and are recessed inside the casing, as are the the cobs themselves which narrows their beams even more. A real pain.
I'll just bite that bullet for now until I receive my XPLs, I might have to finish this grow under the eagle eyes. Not too much of a big deal as this grow is already pretty much botched anyway.

Thanks for the help mate!

Thanks mate, highly appreciated! I really had to do a number on the guillotine, she's just too naughty. :D

Hey guys. There are now two trends in my box, the STB and SS#1 are in full flowering and the KVS and guillotine are lagging behind, taking their sweet time. This is a problem as The first five will probably be ready in about a month, within a week or 10 days of each other, and the last 3 will probably take at least 2 or 3 weeks over that. That's not acceptable and I'm finding myself more and more wanting to take the KVS and G down. The only thing that is keeping me from doing so is the fact that I paid dear money for those plants and don't like to waste money like this.
I've been thinking of taking my old PC case and doing a second grow box but that's quite a lot of work and don't really have time for that right now. Either way I need to make a decision fast. I think that leaving just 5 plants in my box might actually benefit me as I expect the remaining plants to produce more. Plus time is precious, every plant that lags behind takes time away from the start of my next session which is really counter productive in such as mall space where every day and every inch of space count.
Feedings remain the same, everyday and a half on average, ec at 1.1/1.2in and 1.2/1.4 out. Plants are overall healthy but the cramming and proximity to the leds makes things difficult. Lesson learned, never again will I start 8 plants in that box. Next grow will be just 6 plants(again, hopping for males) and after that I will most certainly go down to 4 and stay there from then on.

The KVS, I can literally still count the pistols on those.

The STB are much better, the one on the right is the fastest of them all.

2 of the SS#1, not too far behind, virtually odorless.

The guillotine on the left and the last SS#1 on the right. The guillotine seems to think she is a salad as she mostly makes leaves, pistols are barely showing. The SS#1 is budding nicely.

Total cramming, makes everything so much more complicated.

Hey guys. Today, while sitting there, looking at my plants I suddenly realized how I could solve my light burn problem (Well hopefully, time will tell). My problem being the narrow beams of the lenses, I had to find a way to spread the light that comes out of the leds. So, I took a piece of 400 grit sand paper and went to town on the lenses. Sanding 20 round lenses has been a pain but I am quite happy with the results, the beams are now much more diffused and should stop burning my plants. If this works out to be efficient, I'll do the same thing with the high power leds that will replace these for next grow.
I decided to give a little longer to the KVS and the G as they seem to start working on their buds. We'll see.

Quick comparison after I started working on them.

Leds after sanding, light is clearly much more diffuse to the eye, hopefully my plants will agree.

My 5 most advanced plants in the box, they would have enough room to be happy.

KVS timidly starting to bud...

Crammed again, oh well, I don't wanna kill my plants for nothing so I'll probably let them be.

hey
nice job with plants and leds ,
for better light in u maybe can try to put some relfective stuff on the side of ure box , like mylar or white paint .
:slap:

for ur job :pass:

Brutal solution, i like it mate!

Regarding the overcrowding, removing the small ones from the box dont have to mean wasting them - i put plants that have stunted growth or are slower than other things in my box on my windowsills until such time when space in the box becomes available, or theyre chopped down.

Might smell a bit but ive found - at least on my windows - that even fully flowering ones dont smell much compared to the 16k lumen tented sisters.

Hey guys, thanks for the support.

LGW, Thanks for the rep, mate. My growbox is painted flat white on the inside. The individual pics of the plants are taken in a cardboard box for contrast and proper lighting.

nhdtjq, yep, I've been quite impulsive on this one but I had too. These leds will be switched with 3 XHP50 for next grow and I didn't want to experiment on them so I decided to try with these leds and see how it goes. It works great, no new signs of light burn, so I will probably do the same with the XHPs.

I can't put my plants in the window, I have neighbors of both sides and rather nosy ones with that. The plants will remain in the box till completion, I learned my lesson and will start less plants next session.

Hey guys. We are gradually getting closer to the harvest that will probably start within 2 weeks for the first STB then within 3 or 4 weeks, after that, for the rest of the plants. The STB are clearly the fastest of the lot, followed by the SS#1 then the KVS and the G. After getting fed up with dealing with so much crowding and seeing that Mr Sparkle, in his excellent grow, uses defoliation, I decided it was time for me to clean all that greenery "a bit". It has changed everything as my box now looks almost manageable.
So far, of the 5 strains I have grown in this box, only the Sin Tra Bajos are really worth the effort, the are fast and have a wonderful toffee/minty/chocolaty aroma that is discreet enough to be easily managed by my DIY small carbon filter. The SS#1 are not too bad but not really remarkable either. The KVS and G are very hard to manage in such a small space and take to much time to flower, I will not grow them again under these conditions for sure.

Quick update. Today, I finally managed to find my lost microscope so I could take a look at the trichs on my most advanced ladies. The first STB, who is fattening nicely, is about 50% cloudy with a few amber here and there so I expect her to be done in about a week. The other one and the SS#1s need at least a couple more weeks as they haven't started fattening yet.

I played around with my old digital camera and took a few (ugly) pics of the sea of trichs on the apex of the STB1. Picture quality is low but you can still see that she is jammed packed with trichs.

A few pics after today's watering. The next week is going to be soooo slow going. I haven't vaped for months so I look at that STB like it's a million bucks. I decided to not flush her as I don't feel it's the best way to pull out excess nutes out of the plant. I will, instead, let her stem sit in a glass of clean water for a few days after I take her down and let the osmosis effect do the job. That should suffice especially considering that I never went over 1.3ec during the grow.
