@Olderfart thanks, and he usually stays away when I am messing around in the grow, but tonight while taking the solo pics there was enough room for him to get inside and snoop a bit, so what cat can resist????

Water has a unique property. Like most substances, it shrinks as it cools off, except when it freezes it expands again. That makes ice float, and allows many species to survive the winter in liquid water under the ice.

The expansion part has burst many a pipe. Amusingly, the expansion part happens while the water is still liquid, just before it solidifies, at least something I ran into leaves me with that impression. In any case, the property you mention is hugely important to how life has developed on this rock.
