Hi AFN!!!
First things first: This forum is AMAZING! The knowledge that's happily shared, the freely given help, and comraderie is so unique. I've checked different boards and...yeah, this site is the best out there. Thanks for all you do guys.

So, I'm Lila and plan to start actively picking the brains of a lot of you on here. I've never grown before, but am anxious to start. I thought soil/cfl would be where I would be starting, but as I read the threads and journals, I'm wondering if dwc might be better for me. Mainly because it seems the yield is considerably better with dwc. I don't need massive amounts, but I don't like the idea of putting that amount of time in, to only get an oz or less per plant. Am I over simplifying it?

I live in my own house, alone, so I don't have to worry about stealth too much. Venting to the attic will be pretty easy. I have a walk in closet that's 12ft Lx12ft Hx2ftD. I can partition it as much as you all think is necessary. I want to try growing only 2 at a time in 5Gal buckets. Looking at Dutch Passions Think Different, and ABB. I'm comfortable growing only 1 at a time if any of you think the yield would be significant enough. By significant, I mean possibly 4oz or better. Am I being too optimistic for a first time grow? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated guys. Thank you!

Welcome to the site dude

Hmm, not much experience but let's have a go.

Soil and cfl is a good starter and you could learn a lot along the way but as you say would be more like the 2oz than 4. My guess would be you would need a LED/HPS to increase the yield over CFL. (generalising)

The ABB and TD I've seen are monsters so that would be a good strain. Look for a member called Tang, he has some crackers in soil and about 500g-600g m2 with 2 plants using about 240w LED ( think that's right, sorry if not)

Just looking at a Bubble Bucket set up myself, it does look very simple. 1 bucket 1 plant....easy?

I would/did start as simple as possible and learnt a lot and still am.

Atb with your choice, probably haven't helped just added questions lol

Don't forget a filter, its a must.:peace:

Welcome to AFN lilarae! Glad to have you join the community! :Sharing One:

Have you spent any time in the New Growers Forum? All of the sticky threads (the ones at the top of the list) are full of great advice and knowledge! When you feel comfortable, you can start up a grow journal and you can detail your ideas for it in there so we can follow along and give you advice!

Since you've never grown before; you're going to want to learn some basics and most importantly, learn good growing practices. I know yield is a concern for you; but I'd be more worried about learning to grow properly; identifying problems as they come up and rectifying them; learning your nutes; etc. If you happen to get a big yield along the way, even better!

I know you say stealth is of no concern; well vegging/flowering cannabis tends to REEK. Venting into your attic or not; it's probably going to flood your house with the sweet, sweet funk of growing ganja. It doesn't take much for that smell to waft and flood an entire house. From personal experience. Unless you are an absolute extreme hermit with no guests in your home; you might want to look into a carbon scrubber/extraction fan combo. Or at minimum some form of odor control. Just my "My 2 cents"

I think dude hit the nail on the head; start simple and work your way up. But if you want to hit the ground running; we're here for that too

You're in the right place; great community and great vibe here! :karma Cloud: :wiggle: :wiggle: :wiggle:

Thanks Dude and Son of Hobbes for replying! I've been reading up all over this Forum, and Seymour Buds work with LEDs is incredible! However, i know years of knowledge and experience is what helps his grows be so great.

Thanks for the heads up about the sweet, lovely "reek" of growing girls, Lol. I'm looking into filters as well. I'm not a hermit, but the traffic at my house is minimal. Definitely don't want wayward smells to leak out at the wrong time.

Dude, appreciate the info about Tang. I'll go read through his journals now.

Welcome aboard. Loads of good stuff an people on here.

Welcome to the family lilarae:Drag-On:

Welcome Lila

I just finished harvesting my first grow. Very basic, 120w LED, soil and bog standard veg/flower nutes. I have learnt so much from this first attempt and have been very pleased with the results. Don't feel like you have to be top of the class with your first grow, just do it, enjoy it and learn. I will do many things differently next time as I'm sure you will too. IMHO keep it simple first time out and keep a record.
Good luck and good growing, I will keep an eye out for you. eP.

Hey and Welcome!
You're absolutely correct! This is the BEST place for knowledge AND community.
I am just finishing up my first grow. The advice given so far is spot on. Autos can grow pretty quickly and they are auto so no need to worry about switching light cycles. This is key because you can easily stagger growing to produce a fairly steady stream of consumables. That will enable you to not worry overmuch about yield and concentrate on just growing.
Like folks have said start off small and simple and go from there.
Oh and the smell! I thought I had it all taken care of, but nooooo... I apparently picked a very stinky variety and it is overpowering a filter, an ozone generator, and an Ona bucket! Adding another filter tonight. So don't underestimate the lovely aroma emanated from our lovelies.
