Extraction Magical Butter Machine... anyone else have one?

I am told lecithin helps with extraction. I have some, but I haven't used it yet.
I forget exactly how much, just a tblsp or two, I think.

I start the crockpot in the morning, and let it run, and then start the cleaning at nite.
So it goes 10-12 hours. I think that's plenty.

I have read that using a hand blender helps. I did try that last time, not sure about any improvement,
but all that agitation should reduce the need for long cooking times a lot.

I put the whole crockpot in the fridge. I try to use only as few containers as possible
because the good stuff is sticky, and you lose a little when you transfer.

Went to a talk on extraction by a lady that makes tinctures, and she said that she always does
2 extractions on a batch of pot. I make dry ice hash, and then take the pot and do a oil extraction
with the leftovers. I thought the resulting product was plenty strong. One thing, I always set aside
some of the best I have and I don't make hash with it, it goes right into the coconut oil.
In any case, try a double extraction sometime, you might be surprised.

:stylez rasta smoke: can not wait to see what are creative asses come up with.... :crying: can not wait to make some dragon juice as well! Got to do more reading about the glycerin extracts....

I have a MB2 and it works great. For me it was definitely worth the investment because I can't just leave a crockpot cooking for 12 hours at a time.
I sent an email to their tech support in request for more detailed instructions when I first got it and here is their response:

----Begin----
Here is the guidelines that I use. Now I use "pantyhose" for my final squeeze after filtering my butter, oil or tincture through the mesh filter that we provided. That will help you get EVERY last drop out of your infusions. I use soy lecithin in everything I make because the science behind it states it improves potency up to 30%.

Tinctures:

1 ounce botanical

1 pint Glycerin or 95% ethanol (190 proof)

Uses 160* with the 4hr Tincture setting, then 160* with the 2hr butter setting back to back. Don't even open the machine. As soon as its done with the 1st cycle he run the next cycle. Or you can just do one 8hr.

**Alcohol tincture should only be done for NO MORE THEN 4HRS or ALL of the liquid will evaporate. Also the Alcohol in the tinctures is VERY Flammable and so are the vapors. So only do them in a VERY well ventilated area with NOTHING around machine that could cause it to ignite.

**For Glycerin Tincture use no more than 25% water in your infusions. The standard is 3 parts Glycerin to 1 part water. Also you can REALLY saturate Tinctures with botanicals.

BUTTER, OILS,& FATS

As a guideline use 14g of botanicals per cup of butter/oil. But feel free to make it as potent as you like

NO water

160ºF is the temp that you want to use on pretty much everything.

****Get some Soy Lecithin. I get mine at GNC and it's not expensive. It helps to ALOT with your infusions. Use 1-2 tbsp per cup.

Have a Magical Day

----end----

Glad to hear everyone is getting one :) This is going to be a great thread. I will put some good written instructions on here tonight, maybe edit the first post so people know what going on. I'm excited !

Thanks for posting that, they do have a lot of information in the book that comes with it, but that is definitely a lot more detailed. Thanks for that.

Anyways a few things I wanted to mention, the pantyhose is a great idea. You can also use Cheese Cloth, just be careful when its hot. The strainer does a great job, but takes way to long in my opinion, especially if your using an oz of vaped goods. Then it becomes really thick.

It's weird that they say no water... that could definitely confuse some people.
DONT USE WATER unless you are below the minimum line.
For example, if you make two cups of butter, then you will not need to add any water.
But if you either have a limited source of green, then feel free to use water with it. Because if you only have 14 grams of shake/bud, then you will probably not want to use more than a cup of butter/oil whatever.
So then just simply fill it up to the minimum line! Strain as usual, then you can either just let it sit out for a while, or put it in the fridge, and it will seperate.

Im sure a lot of you know that already, just making sure if any beginners read this they don't get confused about adding water.

2 tblsp per stick of butter/cup of oil my friend! Makes a big difference for sure!

I've had one for a while now and have made a batch with coconut oil, also a stick of butter with about 1/2 oz of already vaporized bud -- had a very strong couch-lock cbd/cbn high which I found OK...But my father didn't enjoy...lol.. Already vaped was alright, but bud will be better!!

Soy lecithin is a must! Helps the emulsification.

Also there's some other cool things you can do with it, like hand lotions. I've made a few for the girlfriend using raw beeswax, shea butter, essential oil drops (pick whichever scents you like), some vitamin E, and a little bit of olive oil. It made a pretty good body-butter thing.

We're gonna try making some lip balm as the weather's getting colder. I was tempted to throw some fans/sugar leaves in there instead of essential oil for this -- see how that works as an ingredient for the balm...

The MB guy has told me he'll have a recipe book out for lotions this November as well.

My only crux with the machine is that I do find that with the cleaning function you will still have to give'er a bit of a scrub afterwards - it's not a MAGIC clean -- but the cleaning function certainly helps to free up the shit that's been caked on.

I'm hoping to try an alcohol tincture in it at some point. I've been told they are SAFE to make in the MB2 using ONLY the 160 degrees F setting, and put it in a well-ventilated area since inhaling alcohol fumes is unhealthy. The best I can get for high-proof is 151, unfortunately, as I have zero access to grain alcohol....But I'm sure the results will be quality. I've only used the freezer method for Green Dragon; I think I can do better with this thing!...

Glad you're all enjoying your machines :)

Thanks jm,

Any idea if they ship to Canada? I'd assume not, but couldn't find any details on their website. This stuff is definitely worth its weight in gold over here.

It's $45/ 750ml bottle of 151 proof (75.5%) rum in ON, and that's the best I've been able to get access to up here since I don't know any moon-shiners ;)

Thanks for the link!

EDIT : Nevermind, haha, no option listed to ship outside the US.

I can't get one bottle of it anywhere, and outside of those excluded states you guys can get a case of 12 of them at a discounted price shipped to your doors. Might be a good thing...If I could get cheap beer by delivery I might not ever leave the house...

Different worlds! Haha pretty interesting...

Man I guess the American Machine has created a bunch of alcoholics here in the northeast, you can find graves (grain) and everclear at almost any package store....
