Dear AFN amigos and amigas!

The time has come to start
Maria's Spring Madness Auto Grow
- it's going to be a lot of fun!

The Seeds / Strains:
All auto strains (my photos are in other grow journals in the Outdoor forum, see my signature line), ordered through Seed City. I'm just doing 1 plant of each, but have 3 seeds of each, 3+1 for the Sweet Seeds strains.

Originally I really wanted to try out the Fast Buds and Sweet Seeds strains.
Seeing all the grow journals here on AFN convinced me of that.
They're all excellent genetics, and the FB seeds are generally easy grow / low maintenance, which suits my grow situation.
The DP Auto Mazar is just a legend, couldn't resist.
The freebies, well, the MoC Auto Blue Amnesia looks great too, I like sativas!

Some basic grow site / location information:
Latitude:
somewhere between 23°0~25°0 North
Geography:
fairly mountainous, at around 500-700m altitude
soil type, not sure, but looks fairly fertile if not a little rocky in places
Climate (for March - June/July):
rainfall from ~120 mm / month in March to 220 mm / month in June
(far lower than my monsoon season madness from Aug - Nov last year!)
average temperature ~20-27° C (the altitude helps)
Light situation (for March - June/July):
daylight hours ~12hrs / day up to maybe ~13.5hrs / day by end of June
sunshine hours ~100 up to ~150 hrs / month (= ~5 hrs / day), not ideal but ...
In short, it is mostly sub-tropical, fairly hot and humid / wet, and also at slight altitude.

Love and hugs,
MJS

Seed Drop - Pure Water Germination

Germination is just in pure water. One seed of each strain, but with plenty of back ups!

I then picked the healthiest looking seed from each strain, nice and dark and large in size. (Only the FB GC didn't look perfect, but it still looked good.)

I had to raid the entire house to find enough glasses to put 8 strains in.
The result looks kind of funny. I took some photos, but ... having some tech probs.

They are all now in a dark drawer, ready for tomorrow.
I'll give them just 24+ hrs to soak, then into soil in pots.
I do not like to wait until the root is too long, as I think handling it could damage it.
I just want the seed case to crack, and the white root tip to poke out, that's enough.

Love and hugs,
MJS

Subbed up to this one. You will love the growth of the legend automazar from Dp. Are you going to top her? Lst? She takes to topping well I think my next one I grow I will plant her on the side of the pot so I have the room to train her to the other side of the pot. IG

The DP AutoMazar is already off to a nice start.
24 hrs of soak later, and only her and the FB C-4 have cracked.

Top her or not.......... don't know.
Haven't thought that far ahead!

But............... I scoped out that outside abandoned garden site
where I have the Early Top Tao and will put the Mandala Safaris.
There are some more great sites, where I'm thinking of dropping more auto beans.
Just dig a little hole, add some soil, and put in the Autos when they are little.
Then not give them too much attention. Just see how they do in the wild.
But.............. don't want to make more work for myself....
will already have 15 plants in two main locations..............

The automazar my wife topped hers and tied her down and she kept on growing.
All branches ended up even the lowest node actually became the highest. Lol
I will just tie down sideways And expose the lower nodes. when I pop mine. It branches very well.

For the autos make an instatransplant container for them . You know what I mean right?

Yeah, this kind of info about the AMazar is why I got it.
First was just FB and SS, but then.... couldn't resist.

But, I have a deadline to finish. I really everything chopped down up by mid June.
And, the DP site says AutoMazar is a 10wk/70 day lady.
All my strains have been chosen partly considering time and also low maintenance strains.
So, starting from April 1, 70 days is June 10 or so.

Do you think topping will speed up overall grow to harvest time, or slow it down?
Problem is, most around here to indoor grows, with 20/4 or even 24/0.
I'm really 12/12 or 13/11, which should speed things up too, but lead to smaller plants.

Will think about it, guess I should see the veg growth of these girls,
and make a decision around Day 14 or so, give them another week indoors to Day 21, then outside.

I've also been thinking about what to plant them into.
I did the Mandala Safaris first in little 0.5L pots, then transplanted into 1.0L, and tomorrow outside in the ground.
I was wondering about the root ball, so this morning gently slid the pot off one of the average Safaris to have a look.
The roots are down to the bottom, but they're not root-bound, yet. They are about to start though.
So, I think I'm going to put these 8 Autos straight into 1.0L pots.
I have some nice little faux "air-pots" knock offs, with nice slits up the side.
Start them in something like this, then into 10L cloth pots for outside.
Possibly, just possibly, just rip open the sides of the 1L pots and drop them in, rather than removing and transplanting.
But, I would def prefer not to leave any kind of things like pots around, as they may lead to discovery....

What do you think?

I think mazar goes a little longer than the reported 70 days. At least for some phenos. My wifes is just starting to get cloudy now. She has been above ground since jan3rd . Pistils just turning color now too. I think they go as long as 90 in some cases. Will do some research and get back with a link.

Oh and for easy transplant into ground try a solo cup with the bottom cut out and 1 inch cutouts down the side on all sides. And put that in a solo cup qith drain holes. And transplant her at 12 days into the ground.
