Mars II 400w or a mars 96*5w reflector?

I personally like Mars II

Me too! but a budget is a budget, also the reflector series look like they're great to start with.
Not that i wouldn't buy Mars2 or pro epistar the second i had the chance!

I did follow Archie's advice and went for the mars II 400w, so far all good (aside from dealing with the extra heat).

archie should come with a warning...is a gobshite and talks more shite than sense.

seeing as you have both a reflector series and a MARS2 what would you recommend as a first purchase?

Well @orrganic I would recommend the mars ii over the reflector series personally, I did have the smallest reflector that mars do at 50*3w (real output of 85w) and the light done ok for the top buds but not so good on the lower buds, the mars ii 400w (80*5w, real wattage about 180w) has much better penetration and has increased yields greatly.

Alls good @orrganic , yields have increased to around 50g average per plant, up from average of 30g, so well happy with that

That's by its self @orrganic, couldn't have anymore light in there at the moment because of heat issues (pushing 28c)
