New Grower Mi5 in tissue culture

So I wanted to do a little experiment and my friend was gracious enough to host a class on tissue culture. Since there isn't a lot about TC for autos I figured I would take the opportunity to make a TC of a large Mi5 that I have and it just showed sex on day 18 or so and I think (without looking at the calendar) that it's day 21-22 right now. It's as wide as the 5gal bucket lid.

I'll know in a week if it's a clean culture and if so, then propagation from it shouldn't be too big a problem.

TC is used for mass propagation in major greenhouses and seed catalogs around the world. What I did is more of a micro-propagation than what I think of with tissue culture where you're replicating plants at the cellular level. This is basically taking a very small piece of the plant (in this case a 3/4 inch long new branch) and cleaning it in a 20% bleach solution and rinsing. Then we made a slice with all sterile equipment and got 2 cuttings from that one branch which were put into a agar solution with various rooting and growth hormones. These should be transferred to a new jar ideally once a month, and can be kept alive with a CFL in just the jar.

When doing the other kind of TC Ive read about you'd see basically a blob of plant matter (a callus) and with that are able to replicate the plants DNA thousands of times over very quickly. It's how poinsettias and orchids and loads of other plants are propagated.

That's cool I wasn't sure if you had brought an auto with you.I'm really hoping this works out it could be very useful for auto breeding.

You can germinate seeds in TC but it's real strength is in mass propagation. And yes, if this can work with an auto it could be huge. What I want to know is if this could work with a flowering auto. That's the next step if I can get this Mi5 to root and grow.

hey thanks a lot for this man...i have, since my last post, completed about 20 hours worth of study and research time into tissue culture...everything from youtube seminars by college professors to how-to articles by back yard gardeners and this really seems to be the thing i have been looking for...already started the bonsai stuff to down size space but think t.c. method has to really cut back on square footage...lights, fans....what a cool idea! no more three or four mother plants for different strains...this is definitely the route we will be taking for all my non auto plants and even autos now if your's works out...

also, you mentioned orchids and in research i found out that they were impossible seeds to germinate by conventional methods and it is tissue culture that made it possible to do so...

all mj references had one first sprouting then transplanting into the rooting jars....wouldn't it be cool if you could root them first, so one could keep them stored in darkness, without sprouts until needed, so they would not need a storage light at all and would not technically be a plant....not sure how arguing that legally would work out, but it would be worth a shot if it were possible... prolly not...lol

TC is definitely awesome. I hardly look at MJ stuff when it comes to growing anymore, and spend the bulk of my time looking at what commercial orchid and flower growers do, especially with propagation and PGR's and such. Good luck with it!

well tmm, if you are successful at it, you may be on your way to becoming wealthy. myself, i just try to grasp the conventional propagation and growing methods. i got my hands full with that! free perpetual sprouts, what a great deal.
