Grow Mediums Mini Kratky 1.0 test - All organic......Will it work?

THis is way cool, i am really curious about the roots that are dev. I am pretty skeptical that you will be able to make it to the finish with no air stone or pump. But that's the entire reason you are doing this right? to see if its possible. How cool would it be to prove you can grow cannabis in hydro with no air pumps.

I will be watching this

Have you seen my other Kratky bucket? Doing quite well, even I'm surprised! This one is in a 2 gallon bucket:

Hey pop this seems like a killer idea and you deserve props for trying. Can you break down the container for me cause i mite try a bigger version soonish. So the roots will grow down to touch the water and also grow oxygen consuming hairs??. So my questions are what do you ph at and what strength ppm eg do you start at. Will the solution become anerobic and ph up or down with that. Also on a previous fourm you had said you had a stone/ww or jh cross....where did those seeds come from. Sorry for the info bomb. Subbed for sure

Pop i had some time to think about your project, went to the gym to clear my head and started to think about your grow log.... i watched that video that you posted and it explained the method. So i understand what the method is and how it works... But my question is... I run dwc, isn't it the same thing almost exactly like dwc but without the air stones? Cause i keep my water about 1inch to and inch and half below the net pot.... So if i was to turn off my air pump.... it would essentially be the same thing? Or iam i missing something? Also I always thought if i have a power outage and no air was getting to buckets wouldn't i run a high risk of the plant dying? or root rot? If this works for you and your plants make it until the end with no assistance from an air pump. Then it would stand to reason that if i had a power outage my plants would be ok for a few days.

Granted my knowledge of hydro is limited at this point. I am really curious to see how this all turns out. Can't wait to see them root pics. :Sharing One:

Actually, you can do this with a five gallon bucket. Then either get at least a 5" net pot and cut a hole for it in the bucket lid, or buy a 10" netpot-lid. The mini is a Hellman's Mayonaise jar. I used a 2" hole saw and cut a hole in the lid and fit a 2" net pot in it. That's all there is to it. I did the small bucket, just to see what I could grow in it lol! And the same for the mini. I doubt I'd adopt it as a method to use regularly, but it will be informative just the same. Then again, I’m all for simplicity too, and this is as simple as Hydro gets! So if you try it, remember once you have deep roots in the bucket, leave an air gap of about an inch between the bottom of the net pot and the top of the nutrient solution. That is suppose to be the key to keeping the plant healthy.

What inspired me to try this was a guy growing lettuce in his greenhouse this way, in the middle of summer! He said he had temps of 100F some days. And not one bit of problem in the Kratky table!

Thx for the reply pop. Im gonna try it on my next project. Just curious as to what the ph will do. Very interested in this grow. Many karma

I set the ph in the beginning to 5.8. Haven't bothered to check since, I figure that’s part of this I'll only ph the nutrient solution I add to the bucket, when its needed. The mini kratky is organic, so I didn't ph at all!

Thanks pop thats what i would of thought too. What brand of nutrients are u using. I have canna coco but i think something else mite be more appropriate to this method. Any flora clean in the mix??

The mini is using my own compost tea. I mixed some dirt from my used soil bin, some from my compost pile, A little dab of composted cow manure, and a pinch of Growmore Organic Soil builder for the mycos in it. I put it in a teaball and steep it a couple days.
The Kratky bucket is using General Hydroponic's Maxigrow.
