Grow Mediums Mini Kratky 1.0 test - All organic......Will it work?

Hey pop, so I guess I'm still learning the terminology of soil grows.. Lemme get this straight though: anything added to a soil is an amendment, so compost IS the amendment.. I think I meant amendment, not supplement.. Then again, I can't quite remember the context that I wrote that in..

Yes JT, an amendment is something you add to the soil to hopefully improve it. Its just a fancy word meaning soil conditioners, ie, improvements to the soil.

I agree pop. I bought 10 seeds of both blueberry and stone and both being great......but the stone was wow wow wow. Most times i was on another planet while riding the couch. This happens to be my last seed and she is turning into a little lady. My other is a photo jack herrer.

Update:

Fresh solution in the Kratky bucket and the Sour Dragon sprout is in the netpot! She's doing well so far! Now let see what an autoflower will do in this. The Kratky 2.0 bucket still has the clone in it, but it doesn't seem to be taking. It looks healthy, but no roots have foremd. I may trash it and put another Auto in it. We'll see in a couple days. Over all, the method is working just fine.

You rock man! They say you learn something new everyday, this is true. Would this method work outside?

I saw it done in a greenhouse, so it should work outdoors. I'd keep the res shaded so as to not cook the roots.

Always fun to read but now I am just wondering?, did you have a worm farm?

I build one last spring at the organic farming school I was at because I was to lazy to walk all the way to the compost, instead we just had a worm farm on the balcony instead of crossing the road to use the schools compost :D

But it was amazing how there was NO SMELL and the amount the worms were eating, we started out with 20-30 red wigglers and some left over worms from my fishing trips in a large wooden box, had a bucket off dry dirt next to the worm farm to sprinkle over the food scraps and that totally killed the smell

I got a compost next to my house right now so not going to build a specialist worm compost but I would still recommend it to anyone trying to get worm castings at home ;)

but I feel like Pop22 already has something similar :D

I've modified the Kratky method for my grow. It is used for fast growing crops like lettuce, that grows in 30 days or so. So my mod is, top ups only during thirty days. Res change on or about 30 days. With the upcoming organic bucket, I'll probably make new tea and change every 2 weeks.

Yes, I started a worm farm about 2 months ago. I've got Red Wigglers. I bought 1000 worms. Think I've likely got double that now. I've just harvested a couple handfuls of compost. and yes, no smell! Just watch what and how much you feed them and it should never smell. You should see them chow on pumpkin! My bedding is recycled soil that has a fair amount of peat moss in it. I've added shredded cardboard and newspaper. Good carbon sources for them.

Nice !

Only think I should tell you to watch out is bleached paper from newspaper and also dont recommend using sawdust because it sucks up to much moister and can sometimes make a seal so the water does not drain good :(

Also a good idea for the summer if you have a open worm farm with no lid on is planting clover on the top and letting it reach 10-20 cm and then cutting below soil and mixing in again ;)
