New Grower Mixing Soils

Hey bud. The lime takes time to activate in the soil and needs to be wet. That's where headpiece is getting at...You run the risk of issues early on if you plant before the lime brings up your soil mix. I too suggest waiting for it to bring it up and get your mix tight first and foremost. Ph is key.

Are you mixing all of that together as one mix or are you keeping a good layer of the Light Warrior up top like Si suggested?

The LW won't really need any lime like the OF does. All of the nutes in the OF is what brings the Ph down, but since the LW isn't hot then I think it just needs a little xtra perlite. You could start in just the LW and perlite now in 32 oz cups and use the tier method to transplant in a couple weeks. That will give your OF, perlite and Lime just enough time to be good and rockin' by the time you transplant to it. Or just do the layer thing or dig out a hole in the middle and fill it with the LW mix. :D

I do just what squid said in the bottom line. Make a hole and fill it with light warrior or something like it. I don't transplant either bud. Its OK not to. Just good for doing regs that's all squid was saying.

So mix FFOF with perlite and lime in my 3 gallon pot, water it and then let it sit for a week or 2 before planting anything in it. Then add a layer of light warrior to the top to start the seedling in (or make a hole in the middle and fill with LW where the seedling will be)? Or should i add the LW at the time i mix everything else, but just leave it on top (dont mix it in). Then how much should i water? PH'd 6.3 spring water is fine right? AS my soil is sitting for the 2 weeks, should I keep it damp every couple days or so? or just water it one time, and let it dry out? Thanks Everybody for your input, I am not trying to sound like a dick on here, I am just nervous, because I spent a lot of dough, and I want everything tip top. PEace!!! :) P.S. Should I add LW to the FFOF/Perlite mix/Lime, and still put a layer of LW on top for the seedling?? So the soil is not as hot? Thanks Again PLAYAS!!!!

Hey dude. Fox Farms has had some quality issues in the past several months. Apparently Scott's(The Co. that owns Miracle Grow) bought them out and have sub-standard methods of storing their mix, so they have had bug and other issues. It seems to be hit or miss you, up to you.

Bawse and I were speaking about this in PM by the way folks. I'm not just slamming FF like that off the bat. Just responding to a PM and his current deal on this thread so that everyone can learn. :D

So if you still want to use the FF deal still. Mix your OF, lime, and perlite and keep moist for at least one week, or maybe ten days. Then take a mix of LW and a little xtra perlite(you can mix this anytime, doesn't need to sit).
Scoop you out a good sized hole in the pot and fill it with the lighter mix and wet it all down until runoff. The next day or after several hours you can plant your germinated bean 1/2 inch down. Lightly cover with plastic wrap or the top to a 2 Liter bottle until it sprouts. This keeps moisture and warmth in acting as a humidity dome, until they pop above soil.
By the way, when working with perlite, always make sure to wear eye protection and a face mask of some sort, that stuff is no bueno to be breathing in or getting in your eyes.

That mix will keep you growing with just plain Ph water for over a month maybe. Easy peazy.

If you don't wanna mix all that and use the FF then I suggest getting a bail of Promix and getting back with me. :D Take care dude. :smokebuds:

I really hate to break in on the current topic but I'm desperate for true proven tips on all phases from germination to flowering. This is my 2nd grow and the first was a huge loss. There were tons of things I didn't have"Material wise" on the first grow that I now have. This grow includes a skunk strain, A strain called Zensation and 2 different AF strains. Time is running out and my girls are dropping off 1 by 1 due to lack of know how I guess. This is truly becoming the most unsuccessful and most expensive hobby that I've ever had. So now I'm tight on cash, the wife's on my ass for being nonproductive in harvest and growth having invested in feminized and AF fems and have had NO success. Again,I'm totally begging for a knowledge miracle to save my small crop. Plz someone help!

Thank you Squid!! If I were to go with Promix, could we still come up with a successful soil mix, that included my dolomite lime, LW , and perlite? Thanks again! FF has got to get their shit together. I spent too much FN money on this. :cuss: P.S. I would like to make a combination work with what I already have now, because I am tapped the fuck out!!! If I can incorporate what I already have now excluding the FF, I will go buy me some Promix. No doubt about it. Thanks again, and for anybody tuning in late, if you have ever had the pleasure of "The Squid" taking his own time and energy to give you advice, relax and take notes playas! LISTEN!!!! Haha PEACE!! P.S.S FF makes LW, so should I consider not using that, if I dont use the FFOF? Damn!!! I'm done for now!! time to smoke!!!:smokebuds:

if I come across pests, what is the best pesticide I can buy. Price is not an issue for that. I have heard good things about quantum apocalypse http://www.entomo419.com/default.aspx have you heard of that, or do you have any other suggestions? I dont really want to use the dyna neem oil that I have because it has to be mixed with dish liquid and its made my plants heavy and droopy, but I want to be prepared in case I run into this problem again. P.S. I am using 250hps from start to finish. Any tips on light distance? Starting out should i go 12" to 16" away from my seedling? I know blue spectrum is best for seedling, and vegging, but I am stuck with 250hps for now. Thanks!
