Hi guys,

So I popped an emerald triangle headlights kush about 6 weeks ago.
It's currently over 160cm tall, my tent is 2m and my light is pretty much all out of wiggle room.
The plant itself has just shown the first signs of buds, for the past week or 2 I've been pinching the very top of the plant in an attempt to stop it growing more, every night it laughs in my face and adds an inch or 2, I'm worried that now that it's started to flower it's still going to want to double in size, the central stem has been as thick as my big toe since day 1 so training it isn't really possible. Despite not yet being in flowering I swapped her over to canna aqua flores a week ago so she doesn't have quite as much nitrogen.

Have you guys got any advice for my big girl. Here she is at home next to a 60cm tall delicious seeds la diva with a week or 2 left till chop.

I would try and bend the main stem down gradually about 12 inches from the top.Tie a string around her about six inches from the top than run the string down to a hole in your pot and gradually tie it down until it is horizontal.Do this slowly a little every day so the stem doesn't snap.

When did you start to see pre flowers on it? If it started around week 3 or 4 then the vertical growth should be about finished. If it showed later, then you may have another week or two of vertical growth. As Namvet suggested about all you can do is bend it over, which is called LST, Low Stress Training. Once it goes into full flower the vertical growth will stop. More info here: https://www.autoflower.org/f44/life-cycle-auto-flowering-cannabis-5113.html

cheers guys, The stem showed pistils from week one, proper pre-flowers only showed up this morning.
I've tied a piece of thread from the tops of the stem to the floor so it's taught, hopefully as it grows this will stop it actually increasing in height. I pinched the top off again and this time fucked up the top of the stem and tried to pinch and bend it so it can't repair.

I sent emerald triangle an e-mail about it, this was their reply.

OK now we see the dilemma! Not real sure what’s happened but if she won’t bend then our only advice is to pinch out the top pretty severely and bush her out, force her to go sideways not up.
We don’t know if to say you are lucky or unlucky but we’ve never seen this happen before from any of our auto’s.
Please keep us in the loop, be interesting for us to see what happens next

If i'm growing bigger than the breeder I can't be too upset :xlaugh:

Muddy, what you said about vert growth stopping once they go into full flower is the norm but I have grown a few strains that continue vert growth while in flower like my NLxBB that is still putting on height especially the main cola.I'm feeding her Dyna-gro nutes with protect siicon and the branches still seem to be gaining a little thickness and height.

There have been 17 different phenotypes of wild ruderalis identified. Even with extensive breeding and selection it seems that every once in awhile an odd pheno seems to pop out. Looks like that may be what you have.

There's always going to be the exceptions but I still think it's a pretty good rule of thumb. I sometimes get a pheno that will continue a little longer than others of the same strain. Part of what makes growing autos so interesting.

Bit of an update, she seems to have stopped gaining height for the time being, my tying down failed miserably (pinged off in the night), at it's current height she tickles my nose and I'm 6' tall. There are a fair few budsites but I've chopped off a few of the branches, the first pair out at the bottom had fairly weedy joints to the stem and were over a metre long, they would have buckled at the first sign of budding.

In 2 weeks the la diva will be out and both LED's will be re-arranged to shine at her from the sides to hopefully bring the buds as far down the stem as possible.

If she continues to be a beast expect an update!
