Hi All-

I've got a Heavyweight Massive Midget AF (3 leaf mutant!) growing in Perlite Vermiculite Hempy Bucket (3:1).

It is at day 9 in the bucket, and growing, but i have a little issue i'm looking for guidance on.

She spends nice days outdoors in full sun and evenings and crappy weather inside under 2 x 43W Daylight CFL 6500K.

Last week when feeding (1/4 Strength Fox Farms Grow Big and Big Bloom mixed in dechlorinated tap water, pH'd to 5.3-5.6 generally) I spilled a little of the mix on one of the leaves, washed it immediately with distilled H20. The first set of leaves was just starting to come up at that point.

Now that the first leaves have grown in, there are definite signs of something going on. Wondering, could this be Nute burn as a result of that spill or am I looking at something else here?

Thanks in advance for any input you can offer.

Maybe a calcium def already? Anyone?

Hey bud-- I wouldn't blame the nute splash for this,.. foliar feeding is industry-wide method for plants of all stripes,.... that smacks of a pH issue, even something brief can cause this,... watch to see if it spreads, and new growth is okay,..no fixing the damage done currently, but do double check you pH, and keep your nute's mild,.... get me a pH reading, okay?

Thanks Waira! I've been going in with pH of water and 1/4 strength nutes at around 5.5 give or take a point. I've been advised not to chase the pH of runoff, but i do measure it, and it's around 7.3. Not sure why it comes out so high. Same for my other bucket and that plant (different strain though) seems to be doing well.

Would a flush at this point be something i should consider?

waira do you know where that ph conversion chart is for run off, I posted it along time ago and now can n ot find it?

Hmmm, let me ask another homie about that,.. I'm not hydro/hempy savvy, so I can't say for sure,... the pH is a little low in any case, but the pH coming out that alkaline..? me too! I don't the person i need, so stand by bro',....

I'm stumped by the pH too. i ran so much pH'd water through at 5.8. No matter what i do, it comes out at 7-7.3. It must be a highly alkaline batch of vermiculite is my best guess. The plants are still young and I've been doing the light daily water alternating with light nutes. Always checking ph and PPM before adding. Stumped i tell ya!

Here is another batch of better photos:

Vermiculite ph is neutral from what I recall? Is it a wast to drain system?

>>> If your runoff pH is higher than your starting (water) pH, use this equation to determine your soil pH:*
Soil pH = Runoff pH + Difference

If your runoff pH is lower than your starting pH, us this equation:
Soil pH = Runoff pH - Difference.

For example, say your the starting pH of your solution before it goes in is 6.5 and the pH of your runoff is 7.0. The difference is +0.5, so using the above equation:
Soil pH = 7.0 + 0.5*
Soil pH = 7.5

If your starting pH is 6.5 and your runoff is 6.0, your difference is -0.5 and using the above equation:
Soil pH = 6.0 - 0.5
Soil pH = 5.5

Which makes your medium around 8.4 so with that your locking out,
