Hey guys, this is an Emerald Triangle Seeds Royal Purple Kush auto seedling. It has a bit of "zebra stripes" in the first set of trues.

My first thought was that can't be leaf miners, can it?

I checked the leaves over and especially under, and I don't believe it's insect related. Perhaps it's nothing but I don't remember having a sprout present like this. Everything else is pure green in the tent, no blemishes.

Any input? Thanks

Nah, not leaf miners, they'd have torn them all up worse. Looks like a mild nutrition reaction, but don't do anything yet!! It's not bad enough to even tell what it could be yet, and more importantly first leaves often look whacky just like that and everything turns out fine. :) Lets give it a few days and see how it looks. :)

Cool, that's about what I figured. I'm not feeding anything, the soil is light but there's a layer of richer soil underneath. I'm just gonna let her grow and I'm not expecting any major issues, just looked a bit curious.

Thanks for your reply, Anthropolis, I appreciate the kind words.

:smoking: Hey Medi'! ...I see weirdness like this on seedlings fairly often,... seems they usually grow out of it, unless it's a genetic anomaly, which is also common enough-- wrinkle leaf, odd distortions, color break (always makes my sphincter wink, as this is a common symptom of viral infection, but not restricted to it),.... lets see how this next set of leaves shape up!

@Waira hey, by way of update, she's still funky but growing. She's been near the fan so she looks windswept.

Curious, the nodes are not growing evenly, so the new leaf sets are asymmetrical. She's getting some brownish - light spots.
Is this a calcium def?

I've got a trace of these spots on a couple Stone Dragons too. The plants I've already potted up look fine.

There's a little stress at some of the leaf margins too, I think the leds have been a little too close.

I'm doing a water - only type grow and the soil mix may or may not be sufficient atm. It's not too bad, but I'd be grateful for any feedback.

Thanks again!

:smoking: hey Medi'-- Hmmm, still looking a bit weird,... if it's still growing like this, it's something genetic most likely,... I really don't like that finger with the withered asymmetrical half along the midrib,... spots might be Ca, too early to say... Too close with lights does suppress stretching! I say, watch her for a little while longer, and if nothing improves, cull her and move on,... any others showing this?

Thanks, Waira, this is the only plant showing this. I tend to agree it must be genetic. You noticed the leaf deformity split along the midrib, I forgot to mention that. It's definitely odd.

I am more concerned now with the spotting. It's showing up a little on all the ones that are waiting to sex before transplanting. I've looked through the stickies and it doesn't exactly look like Cal def.. it is only affecting older fans, not new growth.

Here's another pic on that Stone Dragon :

A little hole developed on that leaf to the right. No idea how that happened but I must have been clumsy with it somehow.

Same plant, leaf margin affected, turning brownish:

Thanks for your input, Waira

I've been reading through JM's def guide, and I'm starting to think the spotting is from high ph. Theres some slight twisting of the leaves as well. The seedlings are in a fairly high (close to neutral ) soil less medium, but there's a layer of "super" soil at the bottom of the pot, whose Ph is certainly lower. So there's a difference in Ph between the layers, and I'm not adjusting the water much, a little lime or lemon juice but I think that probably wears off as a buffer rather quickly, and I didn't use any recently as I've been trying bottom watering instead of top.

So I think it's Ph related and due to the inconsistency of the ph.

I'm all ears if anyone has a clearer idea.

..is it coco? That is one trippy medium, with several unique CEC properties, particularly with Ca, and K,... and this looks more and more Ca defc. to me; it's poorly mobile within the plant, but not totally; in young plants, it'll hit lowers more...and it also seems to hit along the lateral veins and midrib often, with spotting, blotches, usually a rusty color,... Coco is a serious Ca hog until it's CEC demand for it is sated,... that edge damage might be pH related indeed,.. I'm not real sure how plants respond to pH/media disparities within the same pot-- But it's not well liked! ...Ca is okay in alkaline pH, BTW... Now would be the perfect time for an Accurate 8 pH probe! You could test at different layers,...
