Hi, I'm about to run my first hydro set-up. It's a 12 pot RDWC. I am thinking of using dutch pro autoflower nutes. They have a grow and a flower version. I like as little maintenance as possible. I was thinking of doing just one full nutrient change when I change from the grow nutes to the flower nutes.
Are there any nutrients which suit to be used all the way through the grow without doing a full nutrient change at all. Thank you...

Hey @Pezzer69. I am not qualified to answer your question as I am just getting into DWC myself but from my research, most folks change there res more often than you are planning. I change out mine once a week personally. Hopefully someone with more experience can give you there thoughts soon. Happy growing my friend.

If you think you can get away with only changing the reservoir once, do not waste your time. If you are lazy with hydro, it will completely fail. You need to be changing the reservoir every two weeks at the maximum. 7-10 days is what you should be doing. Also, the 12 pot system is not an easy or beginner's system. You will have tons of growth to maintain and monitor. Hydro might not be for you. You should consider doing supersoil in smartpots.

Yeah I am with the folks above, I would say a 12 pot system might be a little much to handle. Also if you are going to do hydro, then the Advanced Nutrients pH perfect line is what you should use because it takes the hardest part of growing in hydro out of the equation and that is keeping a stable pH level. Sending good grow karma your way and if you have any questions feel free to ask away that is what we are here for, oh and also there is no way you can do just one rez change as stated above if you are trying to do it the easy or lazy way then hydro is not for you, it takes quite a bit of daily and weekly maintenance to pull off correctly, especially if you are trying to do a 12 pot setup

I'm going to have to disagree with everyone saying you have to do all these res changes. There are plenty of journals out there where people grow nice plants and do zero to almost no res changes. All they do is top off with just water or nutes. Granted I don't have personal experience but I have done more than enough reading and there is plenty of evidence out there.

Hi @Pezzer69

I grow in RDWC very often but do not document it enough on here. I will be documenting my next RDWC whcih starts in the next couple of days. Now personally i wouldnt listen to any advice that is given from people that do not have experience with RDWC, how are they suppossed to know if they have never done it before??, i mean you can read stuff but that doenst mean you have any experience.

Now if you are new to RDWC then changing your res once a week is the way to go.
I dont care what anyone else says about never changing your res you can only grow this way if you understand your nutrients and set- up. For me personally i change mine every two weeks in flower and weekly in veg, this is what works best for me.

Now for nutrients i would advise you stay away from Advanced nutrients as the PH perfect Line only works in certain water condtions, and some of their products can cause problems if you dont know what you are doing.

My advice would be to go with CANNA Aqua as this nutrient is actually designed for RDWC systems. Id advise to buy CANNAs Rhizotonic for rooting and Boost for some extra flavour which you wont get when growing in water. Any other additives are optional just make sure not to buy silicon as its already in the CANNA base.

A word of warning, Stay away from Dutch Pro autoflowering nutes as these are just watered down version of proper nutes so your actually getting less value for money there. If there is anything else you need help with just PM me and il be glad to assist you. What RDWC system have you gone for? im using Alien Hydro 12 pot system on my next grow but have used IWS 24 pot system in the past.

Be sure to get yourself a chiller as keeping a 12 pot system in the right Root temperautre Zone will be dificult. Check out Haelia as they do the best quality from what i have seen so far.

I hope you have fun, RDWC is great and its really simple once you get the hang of it.

I feel like your first paragraph was aimed at me so let me ask you this. What is the difference between listening to you who apparently has tons of rdwc experience and listening to other people who also have experience and prove that what you are saying is not set in stone nor is it some type of grow law to live by.

I mean there is a whole section of the lucas formula just for adding back nutes to the res for example.

I wasnt aiming what i said at anybody. I was trying to make sure the user who posted gets clear advice from someone who knows what they are doing. To answer your question the difference is i have experience and you dont.

Hey :D Me Again!

So i read through the whole thread and it seemed like pezzer got the info he needed in the first few replies.
I've moderated loads of bickering between you two - clash of personalities i reckon, but at the end of the day i'm pretty sure we all want the same thing - to get the best advice, give the best advice and grow some nice weed.

Sorry - the posts removed were just not relevant. I'm not being a censor monkey. I hope you two can reconcile the differences or give each other some distance.

Hoping we can all get along
