Grow Room Nirvana Northern Lights

That is excellent, BayLee :) Glad to see you got that lady back to a happy place!

She seems to be happier today than yesterday. The SuperBox just is just too small to wack that much lumens on Chunky. I plan on making a larger grow box this winter. The 300w would work better if there was more cubic inches.

What will silica do?

Silica is supposed to help w/ heat stress ... sounds like it was getting too much light ...
A great opportunity for all of us to learn ... I know she'll take off now ...

She's seems to be responding well to the reduced wattage. The small area inside the SmartBox can only handle the 200w Feliz "Red" and the two 42w Spiral "Red" cfls. The canopy of Chunky is even at 8". There is over 20 bud sites, plus the smaller bud sites inside the canopy. I feed her today and she was a little droopy. That's because she was thirsty. Chunky is still taking a gallon of feed/water every 2nd day, but she's not transpiring through her upper leaves. The "canoe" shaped leaves have pretty much disappeared. She's on day 51 today. The bottom leaves are yellowing up. She's got at least another four weeks before she's finished. That will take her into the 10th or 11th week. It still takes three full months of growth/flower for my girls to finish.

Lesson learned. The idea that you cannot give your girls too much cfl lighting didn't sit well with Chunky. I have enough lighting now to start a new grow box, but the wife will flip out if I start a new project.

Assorted Bud Sites (Day 51)

Chunky is coming around after being lumen loopy. The leaf edge tips are still curling a little, but I can live with that for now.

Chunky is Back to Normal

It's been three full days of 284w cfls (Red). The reduction of wattage has been a life saver for her. The bud sites have been getting bigger and fatter. Due to the fact that she's more comfortable in her surroundings. One of the things I've learned over the course of indoor growing, especially this lumen issue, is this. If you are comfortable in your indoor environment then your girls will be too. Think about it. If you were blasted with light 18 hours a day and the light's heat made you sweat to the point of drinking tons of water just to survive. Then you'd be very unhealthy. Try to keep your grow room comfortable for your girls. Keep the temps @ 72F-80F, humidity also is important. In FLOWER try to keep RH below 50%. Think about the weather in autumn. Warm days, cool nights and RH is @ 50% at least in my neck of the woods. Trying to put too much light on them can be a disaster if not careful.

O.K.

I did it right! Sorry about the time frame, I've been so busy. She is six weeks old now and full of flowers. Actually those pictures were taken last week. She is under 150 Watts mixed (6500k/3000k) spectrum CFL'S. I started giving her 1/2 strength flowering nutrients this past week and she is responding well to them. My guess is she has another four to six weeks to go. I think she's about done her stretch and her height is approximately one and a half feet tall. Something odd though, she doesn't stink at all, only when you touch her. I'm used to big stinker's. Anyhow, I will try to keep you updated.

Peace,

The Freak

The nice thing about Northern Lights is they have a neutral odor in FLOWER. Great for noobies and grows that need more stealth. Northern Light is a good buzz maker, but it does lack the smell that we sometimes associate with good weed.

Your NL's are looking great. My Chunky is in her 7th week from seed. She's got at least four more weeks to go. As I've posted before. Most of my grows go 10-12 weeks before I harvest. No matter what strain I've worked on.
