New Grower Northen Lights Auto, UK Outdoor Grow, 1st Ever Grow Attempt

They're looking great. How are you coping with the weather? I'm in the UK, getting a blistering hot day followed by 2 torrential rain days.

Sounds like you fellas need to move up north for the sun! lol

Up to now I have been bring them in at night and giving them longer and longer outdoors. The weather has been glorious for the past week, so I have had them out in the sun all day. Last night was the first night out. Last night it rained and rained and rained. Fortunately I have a polathen green house that zips up at the front, so they are staying in there today.

The strategy would be out in the sun as much as possible. If I un zip the green house they get about 6 hours direct sun atm, when the weather is bad, in to the green house with the zip up. I don’t know if it’s going to work, this is all new to me. I just want to maximise sun and minimise cold and over watering by rain, at least in seedling stage.

Sounds like a good plan. It's another miserable day here, gotta love British summertime!

Here are some pics after a nice few days of sun shine.

I have just noticed a slight yellow/ lighter green colour at the tips of the first mature leaves on the biggest plants. Dose any one know why this could be ??

Is it time to start neuts ?, I have only watered about 1 in ever 5 days waiting for soil to be dry to first knuckle. Any advise appriciated.

a starter strength feeding imo.should do really nice.esp if you gave it a kelp Foliar.but imo you'll be just fine giving it PH'ed water and a starter feeding.,maybe with a light touch of cal-mag too.thats exactly how Ive done my outdoor stuff.Photos, but very similar.Best of luck n Karma for ya."AFN smoke out"

Plants are looking good!

Hope your greenhouse and the plants survived the weather.

There's an (unwanted) weed growing on one, I'd remove that.

When they've been outside check carefully every day for slugs, aphids on leaves etc and remove.

Pots look a bit on the small side, but I wouldn't change them now.

The pic with the yellowing is blurry but it looks like leaf burn from too much nutes. This can often happen to young seedlings when they hit strong compost. I certainly wouldn't worry unduly, you'll probably see that the newer leaves don't have this. The plants are still small and definitely won't have used up all the nutes in the soil yet, so I'd hold off the Bio Bizz Grow until you've got a couple if sets of 5 pronged leaves.

I think your biggest risk right now is the weather. Keep checking the forecast and bring them inside or under protection if sting winds, gold, heavy rain are on the way.

Yeah, but I still think they're not enjoying cold nights. It's been 15+ at night for a week now, but there will be a few wet and cold (7) nights still.

I've heard all hope is not lost when it comes to short plants and I prefer being hopeful. In the end I don't really care about yields on my first grow.

So far so good, when I checked them yesterday, they had had a real growth spurt

Ahhh now this may be a stupid idea. I think I mentioned it b4 but maybe I didn’t, it’s a tomato plant. The idea was to help cover what’s in the pot. Now with you saying that the pot is too small, I’m thinking they may chock each other. Advice welcome on this one.

Rodger that

Yes. I think something went wrong when I converted from gallons to cm.

OK thanks, I have a noobs itchy trigger figure on the nutes lol. Will keep an eye on that one

It is very helpfull when you out line the biggest risk at every stage. Just what a new grower needs, thanks for that. I am so glad I have the green house to portect them from the worst of it. And if it gets really bad I will bring them in.
Thanks as always, and let me know re tommato plant in pot :Sharing One:

Looking great buddy:Sharing One:Man this weather is a bit shitty tho :(

Mmmm hmmm. I went out to check that the the girls were doing OK in the rain, and shut the zipper for protection. On the way back the heavens opened and socked me to the skin so bad that I had to get changed. And this was just walking from the end of my garden to the house !

Yes I feel that too. I want to get this grow to the end, and any smoke is a bonus. This is my first grow and its mostly for learning. I have learned some already. If I dont get to the end I will be disapointed, but if I finnish with some nice smoke at the end, I am not going to worry that it could have been more if I didn't make mistackes. Hope the weather picks up for you.

2 Bayonet cap CFL 20 Watt lamps, 6400Kelvin(K) available from normal light bulb shops soemtimes sold as "seasonal affected disorder" lamps could help extend your daylight hours indoors and keep temps up a few degrees for seedling sna small plants. They are very useful on an auto grow when you start a bit early and the weather is iffy. A good tip for next time.

They just give them that extra little push in their all important early days for the otheriwse outdoor grow. Like a a security against grey days of which we can see quite a lot. Next 7 days is very unsettled weather in UK.

Looking good though keep it up.

Thanks as always, and let me know re tommato plant in pot :Sharing One:

Nah, that pot is too small for a tomato plant as well. Tommie's are hungry plants so will nick all the nutrients, and depending on the variety will grow too large and swamp out your lady. By all means plant tommies as cover plants, but they need to be in a pot of their own.

Even your NLA should grow to eg 50cm tall by 40cm wide given some sunshine.
