Your best bet for outdoor photos would be sativas as they evolved in equatorial climates. Indicas evolved in the Himalayan foot hills of India, Turkistan and China. Look for genetics from Thailand, Panama, Columbia, etc. They will be more suited to your climate. Also, try and find out when the locals plant. You don't want to be trying to harvest in the middle of the rainy season. And yes, they will probably take 9 months to finish in the tropics.
Super autos might also be a good fit for you. They are auto flowering plants derived from fast flowering sativas. They take about 120 days to finish and can get quite big. I've had some 6 foot Super Cali Haze and LittleT had a 7 foot Samurai Jack. Yields aren't as high as photos but pretty descent. I averaged just under 5 oz. per plant off of 5 SCH.
