Lighting Pete here, wanting to switch to LED. couple questions?

Should I get 3 Mars hydro 2 400w lights or 2 700w? I currently have a 2x4 grow tent and will b upgrading to a 4x4. Would like to make sure I have more than enough light to do the job and I also don't want to chance being disappointed with my invest switching from HPS. My current grow in my link below is with a 600w hps and I got knots the size of 1 liter water bottles BUT they are not very dense to b honest. The colas yes but lots of popcorn too. I would like more than one light so I can angle them as in tangs guide, but do I get two to angle or two to angle and one in the middle not angled? And also I use RO water and feed light cal/mag supplement and was wondering how much on average is given per gallon during each watering to help with the LED. Thanks for your time everyone.

From my hps....600w in a 2x4 for tent. Had 4 girls up to 2 weeks ago when I harvested one. Everyone likes a little porn with their reading lol

Just wish it was as frosty as some of yours. Need to work on my density too. More light evenly spread. I actually had a 4th plant the same size in that little 2x4 foot tent lol. Harvested it early to give them more room. Thanks for checking things out brother @TaNg , does grownorthern have converters for the states bro?

Hey Pete,
I'd go for as much light as possible, thinking now you have a 600hps in a 2x4 it would equal 1200hps in a 4x4. Now with leds like Mars you'll probably need the same amount of Watts as with hps to have enough photons for a comparable grow a you have now.
So maybe 2x 900W would be a better buy, though I have no idea if their size and how they'd fit in a 4x4.
There are many other options for such space. What is your top budget, do you have skills with electric components and wires? I think a home made led is the best to have in terms of photons per money value.

I think good LED lights for a 4x4 tent are from BML and SpectrumKing, maybe go check TastyLed, they just came on the market and are basically like DIY Cree CXB3590 build drived on 1.4A(also other options) which has best efficency around(around 54%).
Prices are very reasonable and lights are hand-made in usa.

Hello; I grow in a 2'X4'X7' with 2 bs240uv's and 4 4ft t5's for corner lights, about 30 watts per sq ft of led light. Most people are upgrading to about 40-45watts.

Thanks guys, dunno how I missed my own thread lol. Well along the way of life my cheap 600w hps bulb AND ballast blew so I had to make a cheap quick fix and was able to get an xtrasun 1000w adjustable ballast, 2 1000w hps hortilux bulbs and 6 half gallon jars from my high up grower friend for the amazing price of 30 bucks, all used but the jars, plan on getting new bulb and raptor 6" reflector since this situation has occurred. BUT!!!!! Depending on how money looks, either this grow or after the harvest of this grow in just going to get two smaller LEDS to angle as side lights

I have been thinking 2 to 3 400 w mars hydro 2s and doing one more grow in my 2x4 foot tent than adding one or two more and buying a 4 x 4 tent. Had some car issues so it cuts into my upgrade money :/. My last grow was with a 600w cheap hps and I got about 2000 grams wet, over a pound dry and had some big knots, but no where near as dense as id like. Ran 4 plants, should have only ran three. They were just a little too packed. I'd like more density and higher quality. So I'm switching from hps and fox farms nutes to led and advanced nutrients. Either way I have enough for the nutes I want and at least 2 400s. I feel like that's only going to b equivalent to my 600w though and would really need three in my 2x4 tent and 4 to 5 in a 4x4. I also have read so much on led I'm confused kinda on a lot. If i have to buy leds that equal up to the same actual watts as my hps in order to get the same size yield, how am I saving and how are leds better? Or am I misunderstanding that part? Says a 400 is better than a 250hps. So 2 400s is supposed to out do a 500. So running 3 400s from Mars would equal about 630w actual and b better than a 750w hps. So I'm gaining/saving at that point. But would that b over kill if leds are up to the hype people are making them?
