Outdoor Planting in frozen ground?

Yeah, it would be risky... Interesting experiment tho. Might be worth taking a few pictures if done sometime.

i planted 160 auto fem seeds last year too early , went back a few weeks later to see not 1 had made it , seen a few shriveled ones , luckilly they were fems i made myself so no massive loss of money spent

p.s. they were planted deep

In my experience of growing outside in the uk you can get 100 seedlings spread over 5 potting trays as soon as they have 3 sets of leaves put them outside yes they get a little pot bound, but due to lower temp they don't shoot off to a racing start.
I usually start this time of year and have a cold frame where they go once started protects them from frost and they go into the ground 1st week of april the frosts have usually finished by then. Then there just left alone until sept
If you have until then you will get some pretty decent photo plants even if you plant out in may/june
And yes if you can prepare the soil before winter it will help alot, you can use good organic fertilizer or horse poop that works really well if dug in the autumn and left overwinter

Get a little green plastic cloche from a garden centre and some nice soil and go out end of may and plant em ! Use a quick 60 -70 dayer to guarantee a crop by september. Youl have visit regularly at first, dig a few inches out the size of the cloche and chuck in the soil once they get leaves take away the cloche, also get slug pellets down too.
Good luck with whatever method you go with, keep us posted.

Treeman, please take the above advice. what you are proposing just aint gonna work. Find a way to start 'em indoors and when germinated then transplant. Or even better use a clotch and harden off gradually. I only say this because I want the best for your meds.

Peace bruv, eP.

Something that might work but would be a pain to haul out in the woods is. If you take a 1 gallon juice jug, or those big Carlos Rossi wine bottles are perfect. You tie a string around the bottom of the bottle and cover the string in lighter fluid. Light it and just as it finishes burning plunge the jug into a bath of cool water. The bottom will drop off cleanly and you can use it as a little green house. If you leave the top off there is still some air exchange, but good greenhouse effect. I think you have a better chance of just planting after the thaw and hoping the hunters do not find them.

Hi treeman, maybe you would want to consider container growing? you could make it out early while the rest of the ground thaws if trying to get them out fastest is what you want.

Sounds like starting indoors or planting seeds once danger of frost has past would be the best bet. Thanks for the advice guys!
