Lighting Possible COB upgrade?

i did a convert on this unit using cree 3590s...i did not want to mess with converting their reflector, so i just screwed the holder into the existing heatsink and used an angelina reflector..

i made it drive with a single driver by default.. i took out the daisy chain part and added 2 switches to optionally enable the second driver per light..

this is the 2 unit version of your light.

Id start over. Use it for now but make a simple 2 cob light at low wattages. You can go with passive cooling, a 98% efficient driver and cobs that are giving you the most amount of light per watt.

Nice post. I have looked at those on Ebay also with the thought of buying and upgrading before I even turned it on.
I am putting out a request to @BigSm0 to tell us if and how to frankenstein this cob fixture with a citizen 1812.

Looks like you would need to change the driver as well so I think you might as well build from scratch the heatsink would need to change as well most likely.

if I were to start from scratch what could I expect to spend for a cob set up for a small cabinet grow? My cabinet is only 16"x8"x48". I work in a metal shop and have access to make a frame myself.

Go to cobshop.net and buy a white light AutoCob. You'll only need one that will produce a monster bud plant.

On paper you could do a citizen 1212 at 43w which would probably double the light output but I don't trust these drivers as I have had a bunch of this style/looking drivers burn out. Maxing it out isn't to good either. If you wanted to experiment you could try a single cob or even better test the voltage before hand.

I would be happy with a single cob as long as it improves my current set up.

I would meter volts and amps of the each driver in its current config. This will show how hard they are pushing the driver. Do you have a volt meter

If the current volts under load is close 36v. I would use one driver for the mod of any 36v cob. 1212 or 3590 or vero 29 in 36v. And save the other driver in case the other dies.

I do have a volt meter. I am pretty embarrassed to admit this but I'm not really sure how to use it.

Sure i can help you to get a voltage reading. Take a pic of your meter. Ill tell you on what setting to place your meter on and where to place the probes.

Just becareful. The test needs to be with power on
