Grow Mediums PPM question

Why in heaven would you use sodium thiosulfate? We're not leaching gold (used as an alternative to cyanide). Of course, if he is, I want a tap on Beggy's water supply!! LOL! I got lots of toys for micron gold extraction!

Beggy, I would suggest you contact your water company and get a copy of their analysis of the water. If they are using chloramine, and not chlorine to treat your water, then even bubbling won't be an effect method to off gas it. You may also want to look into adding an RO filter to your system. They can be expensive but check eBay. I got one for just over $100 which is working very well. Relatively easy to install and will reduce your starting PPM to single digits in most cases. My tap water is usually right around 250 ppm and pH of close to 8. After filtering the PPM is usually below 5 and the pH around 6.8. I add enough cal/mag supplement to bring the PPM up to between 100 - 125, add my nutes, let stand for a bit, then pH. If you go that route you'll also need a storage tank big enough to hold a full res change. I'm using a plastic 55 gallon drum. I installed the float valve that came with the RO filter so it automatically shuts off when the storage tank is full.

Thanks Skatterbrayne, I've been on work overload the last few days but tomorrow is looking more flexible. I will look into the ascorbic acid. Also got a nice size tub for letting water sit and off the chlorine. I really don't think the local water is high with chlorine as I've been out west in the desert and could smell the chlorine when I showered. I have a friend who has a friend that works the local water district. Going to see if I can get some numbers just to help my curiosity. Just took some pics of my girls. its been two days since the big reservoir adjustment and I think the girls are responding. DSC00558.JPGDSC00559.JPGDSC00560.JPGDSC00561.JPG
First two are Northern Lights and next two are Short Rider. The NLs seem to be a little stronger and less effected by the high PPM that I was running. Last picture is of the runt of the litter. really burned her but looks to be coming around after the adjustment. I have temps and humidity under better control PPM and PH are stabilized. Will be keeping an eye on new growth to make sure it isn't burned.

It would humorous for the water company to ask what the hell you need it for. "Listen up lady if I want to grow some hydroponics in my home i will... also do you know anyone who needs and medicinal marijuana? Just asking"

Just tell em you brew your own beer and worried about tastes being off due to shit in the water. My tap water is 8.4 ph AFTER bubbling 24 hrs and high ppm, im forced to buy water until we buy a house and i can set up a RO system. Id love an Kangen Water Machine for overall use........household and tent wise, but not enough to invest in one

Urban. Great thought. My son got me a home brew system for Christmas. He wanted me to have something fun to do when I retire in a couple of months. I haven't told him about the hobby I've already started in the basement.:smoke:
