Hey !

A quick question came to my mind ..

Why is 12/12 hr cycle such a thumb rule for flowering ..

Why it cant be say 10 hrs of light and 14 hrs of darkness? or why should one never go above 12 hrs of darkness ?

I mean we do go above 12 hrs of light for veg .. like say 16 hr light / 8 hr dark .. then why cant we go down than 12/12 for flowering ? to say 10hr light / 14hr dark

Logically, as canna is short day , it will have couple of hours of more dark to hold its Pfr .. so shouldnt it boost flowering ? ... or will it stress the plant .... and WHY .. why is so important to me...

Thanks !

You can flower anything lower than 12/12. 4/20, 5/19, 6/18, 7/17...
But watch out for RH when lights are off.
DLI is important for yield, not hours with lights on. 12/12 and 4/20 can get the same results if DLI is matched.

Hey !

Thanks a loads for such a quick and detailed reply.

What is the ideal DLI for cannabis ?
Also, what is the ideal RH for cannabis at night that one should maintain ?

I live in quite dry climate with around 28 to 30 degree Celsius and pretty dry weather. ( Right now 12% humidity and 0% precipitation )

Thanks !

Nobody knows what the ideal or optimal DLI is for cannabis, let alone auto's ... Only way to find out is getting a good PAR meter and start testing, or hoping someone else does it and spills the beans haha

Hey !

Haha ! fair enough ! Lets hope the discovery comes from this forum itself  !

Thanks !

No one knows optimal DLI, because every strain and environment is different. Also for example, DLI depends on CO2 too.
But roughly numbers are between 20 and 50.
With photos, you can take and grow the same clones over and over. First grow at 20 DLI, second grow on 30 DLI... then compare and let us know. :smoking:

Yes it's never ending.... Where do you get the 20 to 50 range from?

I am familiar with the chart and own an MQ-500, there is nothing related to cannabis in that link. Are you just guessing with a huge range covering everything from dead to fried?

Yea, read my words again. Words like "optimal", "roughly", "different", "try yourself"... That's why range 20-50. It's broad/large as you can see. But give you some starting point. Then, as I said before, everything depends.
That's theory.
In other words, roughly anything between 500 and 900 PPFD will be fine in flower. More, if using CO2. Less, if vegging.

Practice it and you will find your sweet spot with your environment, your plants... That's the best advice anyone could give. And it's the truth.
