Live Stoner Chat Question for the experts on light schedule

How far behind do you think autos agree at this point compared to photos?
So in the end this whole thing can be simplified. Finding perfect spectrum wavelength, and intensity, as well as nutrient delivery all based on these ratios, and more specifically, the golden ratio. 1:1.6183. God's footprint!

That is the quest at the first level of understanding of how the golden ratio can aid our efforts into creating autos with the same flavors and terpene profiles as well as yields that photoperiod have now.

I don't think they are that far behind on yield now, but flavor and terpene profiles are still behind. I have had some great autos, and great flavors for sure, but compared to top notch photos, top notch autos, just aren't as good. I can see the yield difference in dry kief, rosin presses, and when making hash as well. The photos produce more every time pound for pound.

I guess that explains their lack of prevalence in commercial grows. So in your opinion are autos still not connoisseur quality as far as terpene and taste? It seems many new growers chase yield but the experienced ones chase flavours and frost.

Autos aren't quite there yet for taste, and yes, there's a reason why we experienced growers don't care about yield, we have jars and jars full of weed and lots of hash, rosin, you name it...we want top flavor and terps. The terps also have a huge effect on the buzz you feel. Not how much buzz you have or "buzz quantity", but the type and variety of the buzz you have or "buzz quality".

Chasing quality will always lead to success. Quality over quantity every time.

Ok here is the data I was looking for if you can believe it.

Based on this information at 24" height a 2'x2' square is all that is viable for the plant. to get an average to work with I will add the diagonals 137+351+530+293+111=1422/5=285 and 128+370+530+353+128=1509/5=301 285+301=586/2=293 So we get 293 umoles/sec. per light times 2 lights = 586 umoles/sec. 586 µmols x 60 seconds x 60 minutes x 12 hours = 25,315,200 µmols
25315200/1000000=25.31 moles DLI. This means we are barely in the range for cannabis. The spectrum on the Vipar is heavy blue:

This is not so good for flower. I would recommend you add one of @BigSm0 autocobs and ask if he has any 2700k or 3000k cobs. this would bump up the moles where you want to be. I would be a better spectrum for flower.

Great job on the math there. I have been working on my math skills and checking my numbers daily. I don the know how much good it will do, but I am looking forward to seeing if it works!

Wow I just realized an error in my logic. I should not have doubled the lights - they are only shining in one 2x2 space each. 1 foot of space is overlapping so that part is correct so you are really short on DLI at 12.65 moles on the outside each 1 foot. My recommendation would be to get 3 autocobs and ebay the Vipras.

I think yield might be an easier goal honestly. I've had 'high quality' strains before but could never justify the price on the black market so for me, yield, it's attainable but taste and terpenev preferences will come with time is the way I see it. I've read how good NL is but maybe it leads to seeking out crosses and phenos later but I'm too inexperienced to confidently say in an eloquent manner what I want from my weed. Just let it be strong and bountiful because I don't know anything else yet lol.

What you talking about @MedCzech? The Fast Buds Green Crack Auto and the Zambeza Blueberry Autos I have grown are every bit as good as the photoperiods of those strains I have grown. THC, flavor (maybe even better a close call), terpenes and yield. It is true that the yields are a little less but they only take 2/3 of the time. This gives you an extra one or two grows per year in the same space which really overcomes the lower individual grow yield. Both autos are top rosin yielders. In fact I am planning on growing the green crack auto again in the next grow.
