Grow Mediums questions about trichomes

Wassup afn, in lite of my recent problems with my blueberry dragons, my question to all is can a nute inbalance affect the trichomes maturity and can a good flush reverse or delay the effects. Eg i starved my plants of calmag accidently and my younger plant is showing all cloudy.

As far as I know there is nothing that can be done with nutes to effect trich development, especially not something quick.

A little more information might help, what are you trying to accomplish? Meaning are you trying to get them to turn amber or you do you want them to slow down and keep them clear or cloudy?

Also how old are your plants this is probably the main determining factor IMO on trichrome development. The reason the trichs are chaning colors is because the complex oil inside the trich "head" is developing and maturing so time is really the only thing that effects trich development. Good question, but I'm with d420c. I think time is gonna be the only thing that effects the development of the oils in the trich head, but I may be wrong

Hi Strakey- Big picture answer is yes... Naturally, producing the terpines and cannabinoids are a nutrient resource draw on the plant....badly starving plants won't produce the abundance healthy ones have.... More specific to you question, if a plant is quickly, badly stressed- water, nutrients- it gets the signal that time is short! They will endeavor to try and mature faster,... a survival reflex I think, in nature, to try and get any seeds ripened and viable before they crash.... >>>

....I don't know with any certainty, mate.... maybe one of our in-house Uber-Guru's does! I do doubt it though,... the chemistry going on in there is likely one-way.... And flushing is a big stressor in itself, and should only be done if there's a severe pH/salts/nutrient build up problem... deficiency works two ways: just plain lack of enough of a given nute', or a pH lockout which causes that nute' to become unavailable (unabsorbable), even if there's enough of it around... in the first case, flushing would make matters worse!.. the second, a possible solution to the pH problem.... Sooo, I looked at your plants, but the pics couldn't show me the leaves well, to confirm the Ca defc.,... they didn't look hammered- :thumbs: ... and it's hardly uncommon for various pheno's to finish at different times, so that might be what's going on....just keep watching for ambering on the trich's.... check out the Sticky's at the top of the New Growers forum section, and look up Muddy's When to harvest auto's article!
...there are specific products for enhancing trich' head development.... I've tried Bud Factor-X, recommended by one of AFN's finest, TaNg,... it stimulates the plants immune system by making it think there's pest attack under way... ( I think it's an enzyme called chitinase, produced by the bugs, in their shed exoskeletons and poop),...trichomes are in fact a defensive structure, making that part of the plant unpalatable and difficult to access without getting gummed up and stuck to the plant..terp's are toxic to bugs as well....the organic equivalent to this, theoretically, is insect frass--- poops!

Waira that was a info heavy post. Thanks for taking the time to put that on paper so to speak. I removed the aformentioned leaves from the plant. I had guessed either calmag or potash. I guess from a previous flush i didnt put enuf calmag in. Referenced some pics and classic calcium def. The taller plant was 2 weeks behind the shorter one hence my question. I was hoping for a diff answer so that i could give the plant time to put on more weight.

Cheer guys, glad to help! Strakey, you plant didn't look that bad at all,...we've seen some smoking wreckages limp into the LHT/Infirmary in mid- to late bloom, and they still staggard through the finish line with good bud! Those fans can act like reserves for some lacking nutrients, but not all,... some, like Ca, are very poorly to non-mobile, meaning they can't be efficiently pulled out of established mature tissue and piped up to new growth that's in greater need,... can you shoot a pic of another leaf for me? and of the plants with cloudy trich's too!....You still may have time, if you mean you want to continue feeding a little and see if she'll fatten up more, but a good pic of the plant is what i need to see to even hazard a guess about timing,...and you'll still need a good week+ to go through cleansing--not a flush- but a period of time with no inputs of anything to help clear out all the extra nuts and reserves in the soil and plant... Many folks use a clearing/rinse agent, like Sledgehammer, to treat the soil... it's a surfactant that help knock loose extra soil bound nutrients,...ideally, you want your girls to finish hungry and on the dry side,...makes for nice, smooth, tastier smoke! :Hookah:

Hey to all that answered i have an update on the trich situation. Since giving the blueberrys a second major flush with a big load of calmag and small amnt of nutes the trichomes have cleared up and the bud started growing again, getting a really thick cola......oddly shaped tho. Will report in the blueberry post in a couple days.
