The likes are also used by Management to show people how much traffic is on the forums to potential vendors and advertisers. It benefits us all. I use a like to show i read a post
Thats all fine and dandy. If I like a picture of your plant on page 5, then like a picture of your plant on page 6, and someone doesn't realise I am up to date...well then...

The badges are only meant as a bit of fun collecting them or to show support for a seed breeder you like.
None of the badges actually acknoledge someones skill or knowledge.(that i know of)
If your here a while you just get to know who to ask for certain things.
We have a collection of the best and most knowledgable auto growers on the planet on this site.
roger that

I love being able to rep the people that helps me that does awesome journals I follow from beggining to end you folks have helped me decide on every purchase I've made and have never been steered wrong way.( It's not hard to figure out the folks with experience)
You can and I do say thank you to them being able to rep makes me feel they know they are respected by me.
I don't go out throwing reps everywhere I think I'm very fair with it.
I'm new here I don't care how many reps someone has ( I'm a adult)
There will always be folks who abuse the things we have but why hurt us.
I've been here long enough to see how folks group together.
I got to say every person from these groups that I've asked for help has did so.
So no I say no don't change it over a few cry babies.
No offense meant but real upset something so petty was even brought up by some.
I joined here because EVERY other site like this has nothing but terrible human beings.
Let's not loose AFN over something so small.
never fear AFN can't be lost
we're just learning new dance steps
tango on

I am one of the group that would not like to see rep gone or reset....I have put a ton of work into guides, high quality journals, highly detailed smoke/grow reports and I know I have earned every single point, and sometimes it just feels good to scroll though my rep list and read the comments. It also allows me to follow up easily on members that I have given outdoor advice to ect. Its too bad that rep has been abused in the past, but hasn't the limitation to 100 for non staff members fixed that problem? There should be some kind of framework to advise staff/mods good amounts of rep to hand out for various things...ive recently changed the way I hand out rep for strain reviews. A decent review gets 100 rep, a well detailed gets 200, and an exceptional review gets max(which is around 320 for me).
I get lots of reps because I live in a far away place beyond imagining. Point shoot post, and the reps pour in. I'm very thankful people like what I do, they show me by the mountain of "likes" I sit atop, thank you all. I might be a star on the frontier, but here I consider myself an average grower(average on AFN ain't bad). The reps that 912 or 22 or, I have a long list of growers I look up to! I see they get reps for growing and showing others how it's done. This is what I aspire too.

hmm likes and rep is something i didnt understand for a long time.got the jist of likes, didnt quite get rep.forgot to thank others for it way to often, and forgot to rep others just as often.and still do.
maybe we all lose rep apart from the people with a band under their name ? only they can issue rep ?
:pighug:
first rep I got I thought it was a reprimand, no kidding, that's how caved and shy I was when i showed up here

first I've heard of ghost points

That's what I call them. I don't know the story. Never asked. Just read about a sudden outrageous jump in some numbers a while before the holidays and that it was being addressed and never heard a word til now. Never bothered me. but now the question is about leveling the field at the expense of all again without a tech glitch to justify it, when maybe all that is needed is a re-think by some.
Consider this,. As the light shines brighter for growers legally, so will the need for experienced help. AFN journals and pictures can have a strong positive impact on a resume and a credible rep score could carry some weight as the line dims between our anonymity and the real world for some. If it is just gobshite it will carry nothing.
Badges are nice for reached plateaus and special events. But legitimate numbers to be compared against the highest is a simpler way to help identify ones reputation. On it's own it may mean little, in a complete package, it re-enforces the over all picture. Not only in growing ability, but in a prospective employees interaction with others. This may sound like tripe now, Look back in a year.

Sorry for borrowing your word Archie. It just seemed to fit nicely.

Right, we're stoners and we want to be taken seriously, because we are serious about what we grow.
