For years now I've wanted something that could reliably tell me if my grow area stinks, and how badly. I've looked into this before, but it looks like the tech will finally be possible for the small grower like me.
I ran across this on Kickstarter, the Smell Inspector. It only went live this morning, and half the basic units are taken already. Thought I would put up a thread, in case anyone else fancies their Arduino etc skills.
I don't have any part of the group, other than making a pledge myself. If it takes off, then I'll update the thread at a later point.

Smell Inspector is a developer’s kit and ready-to-use electronic nose gadget in one. For anyone working on smart systems - from developers or scientists to tinkerers. Immediately usable for manufacturers who want to control their production environment and the quality of their products.
Smell inspector is a digital nose, which works with the same principle as a human nose. Train it and create your own specific use case for single gases, gas mixtures or smells.
Components
Smell Inspector
The gadget contains Smell Board iX16×4 with four Smell iX16 detectors, can be connected to a PC, tablet or smartphone and can be operated with the Smell Annotator software. Compatible with Arduino and Raspberry Pi.
Smell iX16
This is our core invention: The first multi-channel gas detector chip designed to conquer the mass market. The sensor elements contain fine-tuned carbon nanomaterials which make the chip highly sensitive, small, energy efficient and affordable. There are four Smell iX16 detector chips on the electronic board. The current version has 64 detectors (16 channels per detector chip) with a size of less than 1sqmm (0.08sqinch) each. Further miniaturization and / or increasing the number of detectors can easily be done. The detector chip Smell iX16 only needs 1 µW of power supply. It can thus be powered by various host devices, energy harvesters or batteries. Smell iX16 is designed for use in unlimited miniaturized electronic and IoT applications in various areas. The detector chip has a high sensitivity to different gases and VOCs.
