Ok so this is something i have gotten different opinions on... :dunno: Looking to see what the vast majority of you think.

Growing in soil, when you water, the soil holds nutes this is what attributes to the build up of salts which is why flushes are needed.... So far is this statement correct?

Now with feeding plants in a soil mix..... Typically you water your plants twice a week, in that same week, Say you water on Monday with nutes come Wednesday they need water again. Should you just give them plain water... or that same feeding again?

I have gotten answers from... NO don't give them clean water the second watering of the week because it flushs out all the nutes the plant needs....
To yes they need the nutes give it to them every feeding

i feed every watering even if Im watering every other day

I always feed till I see ill effects then take a step back with a few plain waterings.

also a lot has to do with your medium your in, the nutes your using, and most importantly strain dependent. some strains are very finiky to any type of over feeding where some will be begging for more feed.

I believe when you feed in soil it is the process of the plants using the nutrients that creates a build up of salts.

Personally I include nutrients in every feed(after the first week or two and excluding the final flush).
To ensure I am not at risk of a salt build up and eventual nutrient lockout, I always make too much feed so I can water until I get a good 5 - 10% run off. So in a 10 litre pot I would expect 500ml to 1lite of run off, which is discarded.

This way on every feed I am flushing away salts and replacing them with fresh nutrients

I will quickly qualify my comments by saying that this method is great with organic feeds but I am not sure of the effects of chemical feeds as I don't use them. I am sure someone will be along shortly to comment on chemical nutrients for you.
