I have to warn you in advance that there is a chance I won't let these plants reach maturity. It's a semi-guerrilla indoor grow. Just last week I decided to rip them up or give them away because I wasn't at peace with the grow...I'd be so sad at the discomfort and anger my extended family would feel even if their emotions are based on a misunderstanding of the gentle herb. But giving them away would violate the Golden Rule and might jeopardize future grows and I just didn't have the heart to rip them up.

Also please understand that with the situation of the grow I can't give them the same tender loving care that most of you can. They are growing in a plywood box in an unheated space that I can only access at night, and not too often or for long periods of time. So things are a little ghetto and high tech at the same time.

Strain: Sour Spyder, non-fem

Germination: direct seeded into the final pot. Three seeds into the same pot with the hope of getting at least one female. I might dig out a male and try to collect some pollen.

Soil: Local peat with rice hulls and bone meal. Some nitrogen naturally occurring in the peat, so no added nutes yet as of day 20. It's a heavier soil mix than most, so I will be extra careful not to overwater.

Ok, my wife is up so I'm just gonna post this and come back later.

Continued....

Lights: 2 x 55w CFL security lights, 1 42W cfl. The 55w bulbs are flat with a reflector. Essentially only one is shining on the plants right now because they are small and close to the light. The smaller bulb is primarily to provide supplemental heat.

Cabinet: 23" W x 18" D x 39" H. 1/4" waferboard (cheap plywood)

Situation: Unheated indoor space in a very cold climate. I have to leave the lights on 24/24 to keep it above freezing. Right now it's at 54 F inside the cabinet because we're having a cold spell.

Odor control: CAP OZN-1. Not up and running yet. No smell yet at 20 days. I realized last night it might not work sub-freezing temps, and I'll have to check that out.

Other fun stuff:
Ambient Weather WS-0101 Wireless Thermo-Hygrometer with Indoor Temperature and Outdoor Temp and Humidity. Allows me to monitor the temp remotely.
Foscam FI8910W wireless webcam
HW 2190 Heavy Duty Remote Control (2): allows me to turn things on and off remotely. I was using it to turn on/off the vent fan, but I just hooked it up to...
Johnson Controls Digital Thermostat Unit: top notch thermostat.
AC-Infinity Dual 120mm Quiet Cabinet Fan

Here is a screenshot from right now, day 20. I imagine they are smaller than they could be because of the sometimes cold and fluctuating temps. It's been as high as 86 and as low as under 50. The droopy lower leaves could be from the temps or from the saturated, heavy soil. I'm not worried, as I won't water again until they get quite dry.

im subd...

still a little early for me to tell the sex...will be watching:smokebuds:

Quick update. Seriously sub-zero temps around here, so the temp outside my grow box might be below zero. Yesterday morning the temp was 44F, so I added a 100W incandescent for heat and I raised my pot (ha ha) to be closer to the lights. Now the temp around the plants is closer to 80. A little warm, maybe, but at least they'll keep growing. I'm sure the soil temp is lower. They look happier and are putting on growth.

I noticed a slight odor when opening the grow box, so I might have to fire up my ozone generator soon. The problem is that I'm not sure of the operating temps of the OZN-1. It's a flourescent light bulb, and some of them don't work so well in the cold. I really don't want to put it inside the box, as the ozone concentrations could damage the plants.

Well, in regards to the reported hermie tendencies of its parent Sour 60, this grow might be a good opportunity to assess the sexual stability of Sour Spyder, because my addition of the 100W incandescent and moving the plants close to the lights have caused the temps to be hard to regulate remotely. It's gotten as low as 44 F and as high as 97 F! The plants still look healthy on the webcam. I'm excited to visit them in person again soon, because I might be able to see their gender.

Oh, I forgot to mention, what I really need in there is a circulating fan. They're now so close to the light, and the light's shape and reflector creates a little heat bubble around the plants. Thus the ambient temp in the cabinet was likely much lower when my thermometer read 97 F. But I really don't want to spend any more money on this and I haven't found a fan lying around that I can use. An computer fan with an AC adaptor would be ideal.

I visited the plants last night. They seem relatively happy, although I'm sure they're behind (for Day 26) relative to other grows I've seen. All about low temps, I think, especially in the root zone. I was expecting to be able to sex them, but I couldn't. Here is a blurry webcam pic from right now:View attachment 170808
