Hi guys I have just found a spider mite problem on two of my plants, these two plants are only three weeks away from harvest, I am wondering if anyone can assist me with any effective remedy, I have been reading about pepper spray made from real hot chillies but not convinced that this is the answer, I would appreciate any advice and would be so grateful, Thanks in advance guys.....

What's up brother @Bisto2811 !! Mites suck balls!! Being this close to harvest is gonna limit what you can effectively use due to residuals being left, that being said,I have read some other posts for the same issue and it was recommended to let them go untreated, the reason being is that, mites are sucking the juices to survive, once the plant is chopped and hung to dry the mites will leave on their own to find a plant with juices to suck on,depending on how bad they are is a big concern because if they have " encapsulated the buds with webs, they may be a loss, however if they are not too bad the buds will still be usable for smoke( depending on how bad)or oils.I tried rinsing with a light pressure spray of just water but it cause moisture inside the tight buds, which cause mold, and a 100% loss, best rec from me is to get thru this harvest, clean everything down, and watch for them in the future, they are more manageable in veg...but another senior member might have a better option for you...peace!! Oh,ps,tried the cayenne pepper spray but did not work for me,plus that would be left on the bud too if you were gonna smoke it( and not make oil)

Thanks Budlee that makes sense to me and I suppose I will just ride the storm for now and have a total clean up and fumigation when I chop them down :)

I spray them with water + diatomaceous earth, simple, effective, organic.

:yoinks:don't let it ride! your bud will be covered in web and your bud will be full of mite feces, and dead mite's. :yoinks: treat with something organic. like mighty wash, and neem oil or pyrithrin, all will be gone by harvest. with no residue. using two substances alternating, works best. :2cents:

Thank you senior members for chiming in where you though I might have dropped the ball, the previous statement was based on my research from these threads:yoinks:..and it was a recommendation based on what I would feel safe doing,.Being three weeks to harvest and just finding them means they are probably not bad,and while the thought of smoking feces and dead mites might not sound appealing.smoking an "organic" product + feces and mites sounds less appealing because I think you know that you will not "rinse" 100% of either off and at the chance of causing mold, which you might also smoke, makes it that much less appealing, the mighty wash product is just that,a wash,it could work to possibly rinse them away but does nothing for the live ones, hence the DE,which is a powdered silica, sure many products are food grade, but that is to eat,not smoke!! @Bisto2811 , I am not saying to not use the advice or the products suggested,I'm just saying to do a quick search and decide for yourself.Your future grows will be better and get easier once you find what's gonna work for you,Peace out brother !!

If you've got the time/patience, one thing I read about once that might be worth a try would be to use a small hand vacuum and gently working over each set of leaves to suck the little vermin off. What I'd read went on to recommend tossing the vacuum bag in the freezer overnight before tossing in the garbage to fully kill the little buggers by freezing, though that would certainly be optional.

:toke: Bisto-- ..indeed, no DE spray-- talk about residuals! this stuff is the microscopic"skeletons" formed by single cell algae, made typicaly of what amounts to glass,... at the bugs' scale, it's like shards of glass to them, doing physical damage, best used on soil surfaces,... There are lots of food-safe/canna safe products out there, I'd stay away from all aromatic oil derived stuff because you're in bloom,... Like Astro said, it's far more effective to have two different products to hammer them with,... since you have one of my suggestions ordered as mentioned by my mate Ronin, I'd score something that has Spinosad in it,... this works on an entirely different level vs Azamax, so it's a serious 1-2 punch! Spinosad is a neurotoxin (like pyrethrum), derived from an obscure bacterium, fragg'ing their nervous system; you'll get good info on the Axamax label about how it works,... neither are right now contact killers, instead, they sicken them badly first, stopping feeding, etc., then croak out a day or so later,... but contact must be made, and so apply a couple repeated alternating treatments... your spraying skills need to be good, getting tops and bottoms evenly and thoroughly, pot sides too,... clean-up loose debris big time as best you can, (after harvest, you'll need to go full decon'),....I like these two products because they don't leave much residue, and can be rinsed gently away down the line,... do all this during light hours, away from any direct light (save fluoro'), early on, too allow things time to soak in there and dry off... double check by lights out,... also, I strongly recommend adding a water spreader/wetting agent to all sprays; this will make treatment and rinsing more effective,... it takes the surface tension out of the water/soln. you're spraying, so it coats and sticks far better, and also help penetrate the pests' natural water repellency,... Mites are nickenamed the plant Borg for good reason! :finger::pimphand: ... in some ways, they're more like a disease than a pest, and there's no one-shot cure either... it's a damn war!
