Mephisto Genetics Testing for Mephisto

And DWC works its magic! They've grown just since yesterday! They'll be even happier after the res change! I'll wait a couple days for new pics, better to show the amount of growth.

Update: Day 19
Res changed and cleaned. Water ph'd to 5.8. Nutes to 530ppms. Now my plants should be real happy with a proper ph! Only one root down into the res yet though. As soon as they all are, I'll lower the water level to an inch or so below the netpot.

Insulated the res today with 1" foil faced foam insulation. We'll see if insulating with rigid foam works well enough to keep it. I had the insulation anyway so it cost me nothing to re-purpose it this way. Don't have a chiller running yet, the de-humidifier I was going to build one from is a dud. Next month, I'll see if I can scrounge up another for free or cheap lol. Until then, its 2 liter ice bottles so hoping the insulation slows down the need for that.

Pop, I am going to add a layer of insulation to the top of my res. That's where I think it is absorbing most of the heat from. I know you've added foil faced insulation did you add it to the top of the res? Has it helped with the heat?

Will you please explain where you fill your res to when sprouting seedlings. I have a hybrid DWC system that uses a top feed for 15 min an hour, until it fails each grow. At the point at which it fails the roots are already in the res so it dosen't matter. I am setting up a couple of 3.5 gal buckets without top feed, straight DWC, and I am not sure if I can submerge the bottom of my rockwool cubes in water. Thanks

I haven't insulated the top, but plan to. Even just insulating the sides has been very effective.

As to propagation, O start my seeds soaking for 8 hours. Then transfer to paPER TOWEL. When the seed has sprouted and has a root an inch or more long, I place it in a neoprene collar and put in in my clonebox. It will stay there for about a week, until it has enough stem and root that it will touch the bottom of the netpot and the top is close to the top of the pot, that way I can fill it with hydroton and have no light leaks. I fill with enough water to cover the bottom 1/2"-1" of the netpot, until the roots are down into the res, then I'll lower the water level to an inch or so below the netpot.

yes you can submerge your rockwoo0l. I've started seedlings in rockwool. Once rooted, I place them in the bottom of the netpot then fill it with hydroton.

I fill my and empty my res by removing one netpot and setting ityt in a 3.5 gallon buck that has the lid prepared for a 5" netpot. I place a pump into the res and pump the water out and the fresh in. I then ph it and add the nutes, the retest ph and ppms.

Hope this helps.

Also I prep my water by fiulling the bathtub, and putting a couple airstones in and bubble over night. My water is well water, but it is chlorinated. I then pump the water into my res. I have a 600 gph pump that I added a pvc pipe adapter made for attaching a hose to. I run a garden hose from the pump and that how i get the water into the res. Same setup is used to empty the res

Thanks pop, I am getting ready to run a couple of 3 1/2 gal. bubble buckets I built. That helps a lot. Cheers!

Update and filling/emptying the res

First, I posted yesterday, an answer to a question on filling/emptying a multi res DWC/RDWC. I decided to expand and include pics on that topic here.

I use a 200 GPH pump. Adapted a 1/2" PVC to threaded hose adapter to the pump outlet. I drop a 3/4" tubing into the res and connect it to the input of the pump. It would also work of you have a sight level hose on the side of one bucket, you can hook up to that and pump it out. I use a second res for water tempering ( I use tap water ). I fill my bathtub with water, let it sit over night then pump it into the tempering res. I pump out my res, then PH and mix the nutes in the tempering res. then pump it into the res. Sounds like a lot but its not , and it beats the hell out of carrying 50+ gallons of water with a bucket!!

Update:

Growth continues! Plants are starting to accelerate growth! You'll see one plant had reacted badly to the ph of the res prior to the last res change. hopefully, it will bounce back now. At res change PH was 5.9. currently the ppms are at 530. You can see the res and room temps. I just iced the res this morning, It can keep below 70F for more than 30 hours, depending on room temp. Can't wait till they all gain in size!

Res change put off until tomorrow. current ph is 6.3.

My water is well water from a deep well. It actually supplies 5 homes. something has changed in the water tough, I've never had PH issues with it until now. PH from the tap has risen to 7.5 and ph in the res won't stay down. Tested this morning, res was at 7.1. Ph'd it back to 5.9. going to track it closely for a few days see what kind of curve I've got. I want to go to RO water, just can't afford it yet. Might throw a couple gallons of distilled water in during res change to soften the water a bit. Need to recheck the ppms of the tap water again too, something's sure changed!
