How does Sour Stomper respond to topping? I have two in my current run at 18 days old and I’m tempted to top!

@RustyRuss Right know I‘m growing a Sour Stomper (link to journal in signature). I topped her at day 16 and she took it very well. Branching is good and strong ... would do it again.

I would highly advise against topping an SS.

Can‘t confirm this so far. Done on a healthy, well grown plant at the right time topping is not a must but surely an option.

I'm curious what SlowEasy is going to say to this since he really likes this genetic.

I consider topping as method to limit the grow zone on a plant and get better average buds as opposed to really nice ones up top and larf on the bottom. SS is a smaller plant and produces dense nugs all over. Doesn't seem reasonable to top her.

My buddy gets 12 per plant on most other mephisto genetics. Something like Walter will come in at 10. Yes that is what my friend gets on a Sour Stomper actually a bit higher at 5ish. Extemely hard dense nugs. It has power just not like the others. 3-4 oz per plant is not acceptable in today's world of elite genetics.

The votes are coming in at DG, Ripley's, AVT, SODK, Walter as top genetics. Folks like SS but they immediately switch back to one of the 5 mentioned. My buddy is about to test Fugue State, Creme de la Chem and Tyrone to see how liked they are.

I'm not instigating you. I called the yield garbage which is true. It's missing a major check mark.

First off anyone that starts a comment "My Buddy gets" clearly doesn't have personal experience with the strains. 2nd off 3-4 oz is a totally respectable yield for said strain. I purposely avoid huge strains and have to use 3 QUART pots to REDUCE my plant sizes. Nobody asked you for your vote on anything. I have grown Thousands of plants. Higher yielding strains are not better because they yield more. I can grow 4 Sour Stompers in a 4x4 and yield a pound in 3 QUART pots . They finish pretty fast, and my patients bask for it specifically. There are different sized plants for different people's needs/wants. I could care less what "your buddy" is trying next. I have grown about 75-80% of Mephisto strains. Double Grape is a good strain, but Sour Stomper smells more Grape by far. The structure of Sour Stomper is similar to Double grape, growing with minimal training is tbe best. They grow tall and skinny. If I wanted to grow a large strain, I would expect larger yields. But only can fit 1-2 plants in the same space. Have you grown Sour Stomper yourself or just "your Buddy"?

Really this is dependent on your own garden. If you’re having really quick rates of growth and the timing is right, then it’s possible to get good results.

Personally we don’t top any, just go with leaf tucking and LST on all our strains where appropriate,

But others have, will, and can make anything work,

I just for sure (again, personally) wouldn’t top any of the super quick, super indica strains like sour crack, strawberry nuggets , 24 carat for example,

I don't top mine, they grow tall and skinny. Minimal training needed.

I wish I could prove it to you. A 4x4 Mephisto grow will hit that with empty spaces all around all the plants. Just three plants man.
