Indoor Upgrading to new setup need advice

Your attitude is so in your face ...why is that? Sounds more like you are defending everything you have instead of trying to have a constructive thread about a guy who wants to buy a tent and a couple lights...HPS or LED.

And if you keep on with calling other members "lame ass", "shit talkers" you'll be packing your "lame" gear up and finding a new kiddy pool to play in, because your type are not needed at AFN. If you can't be positive and helpfull then drag your lame ass...

Get it.?

why do people call names while their "correcting" somebody??
and then they hold the positive message??
the internet is so funny not often in life does one step between and use added insults to stop an argument??
i think the "HAHAHAH" and gross underestimate of weight regardless of the view from pic were really the start of the out of line and would send most into the same sorta defense of what they are sharing from somebody w/ less than 20 post no matter their resume
you can't fix one side of the track and expect the train to run properly

The answer to the question is the same as always
the proper type of set-up is dependant on your conditions
there are alot of nice tools in the shed now w/ the evolution horticulture has had as of recent years especially
but one tool doesn't always work the "BEST" for every situation
some that run leds need to run dehumidifiers and heaters in some conditions
some w/ hids have an issue venting heat at times
some areas are too confined for hids or leds so clf is the better situation there
just to name a few ,but alot of things go into the decision in the end for what's better for ones garden
But the one thing that doesn't change is that you need to learn your equipment as well as you learn your plants
toooooooooo many wht if'sss and you could 's
You need to know your area and how easy it is to accomplish your mini ecosystem your creating w/in your area

if.. money is no object and yield per plant happened to be the only question(unlike here where the question seems to be per garden) like in some medical states that have a plant limit worry
then go for broke hid above leds as dirrectional accent canopy lighting and cfl's for bottom and lower side branching :)
see it was that easy:)
but if overall garden yield was the question ????well this is once the gardener learns how to yield the # in question regardless of the equipment used

Let's get this thread back on track.

For a 5 x 5 tent running LEDs I would suggest at least 1000 watts of LEDs over the HPS. Besides the heat issues, there is a considerable saving on electricity running LEDs. There is also the cost of replacement bulbs to factor in. An LED rated at a 50,000 hour life is almost 7 years running 20 hours a day. Running HPS for that same 7 years you would probably need to replace your bulbs at least 4 times, maybe 5, as their output decreases with age. At about $100 a pop for a good bulb with an expanded blue spectrum, that's an additional $500 you will be spending. So while the up front cost of the LEDs is more, when you factor in the savings from electricity and replacement bulbs, the LEDs come out less expensive in the long run.

In a tent that size you could fit about 16 autos in 3 gallon pots. With good growing techniques and the right strains, you should be able to average at least 1.5 oz. per plant, so 24 oz per grow. Well over your desired 16 oz.

Before you commit to buying those Hydro Hut lights I'd suggest you take a look at our LED Lighting forums. I think you can do a lot better from either GrowNorthern or FERO as compared to Hydro Hut. The quality of their lights is far superior to anything Hydro Hut is offering and you've got the actual vendors right here at AFN to help and advise.

ok im kinda new did about 4-6 autoflower grows in growlab120 tent with 2 led lights hydroponics hut 180watt & blackstar 240 watt light.now my grows were ok nothing special. pulled in 2oz off two plants per grow but its not enough i want pull in at least 16oz per grow so i wanna step it up.what im looking at is either gorilla tent 5' * 5' with (2) hydroponics hut 550 leds selective switch and inline fan with carbon filter or glowlab145 4'9*4'9*6'7 with same led lights.also was thinking (2) 1000watt mh & hps lights air cooled with growlab145l 4'9*9'6*6'7 with inlinefan and carbon filter.any input an help is greatly appreciated..not sure what setup is better never did hps&mh lighting iv heard that heat is going to be biggest major issue to deal with.:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

5 x 5 I would have 4 BS 240s which is 130w each= to 520 watts instead of the 1000w HPS in a cool hood/tube...

But the 4- 240s will cost you about $1100... so a bigger new style would be an option... Like the GN lights or the China ordered ones...

thanks everyone for all info.. it is very much appreciated...iv really been thinking alot its driving me crazy..the 1500watt led complete setup from blackdogled.com is very expensive $2500 but he offers lifetime warranty on those leds and iv seen really good reviews..only thing is no inlinefan an carbon filter with package so theres another $300-$400..monstergardens.com has complete package to start growing asap for $1500 hps &mh 1000watt an i would save $1000 bucks..only thing is i keep hearing about heat issues with those lights.my tent will be in basement were its colder if that helps

Hey again konehead. :smokebuds:

I'm still gonna recommend LED. They are safer, less heat, less power, longer life, and give amazing results. Just go check out the LED grows here. :D And the fan/filter combo shouldn't cost that much.

Alright so you want:
A 5x5 tent.
Lights and fan/filter for that.
What about nutes and mix?
I can shop for you and give you prices for possible setups.
Just lemme know what you want...I know the pound per grow deal. Honestly, you need to lock down growing before you can expect results like that as a new grower IMO.
Not to say you can't do it though, bro.

http://www.gothamhydroponics.com/growtents/grow-tent-5x5x7-lighthouse-grow-tent.html $167 Fucking great tent!

http://www.gothamhydroponics.com/fa...o-8-inch-inline-fan-8-inch-1000mm-filter.html $289 8 inch should be fine with LEDs.

Amazing LEDs, many growers here use them. 3 year waranty as opposed to Blackstar's 1 year. $330 each x 4= $1,320 200 watt each so that's 800 watts of badass LED power.

So beyond Ph meter, mix, pots, nutes and a circulation fan, etc.
We are looking at 1,320+167+289=$1,776
Now I didn't add shipping, but if you call Grownorthern especially, they'll cut you a deal somewhere. Same with the others if you show interest in buying their products.

I would freaking love that setup! I don't and won't have that kinda space for a long time, unless I win the lottery. But I am happy with what I am getting/have. :D

@ SQUID well finally made decision on my setup.i really hope i made right one..cost me damn near $2800...decided to go with 1500 watt black dog platinum led light & 5" * 5" gorilla tent with inline fan an carbon filter.thinking (9)3gallon smartpots to start off with with foxfarm ocean blend soil with my foxfarm nutes..also as for strain i was going to try auto purple kush from budda seeds..but i do still have 7 barneys blue mammoth left over i could give a whirl.i want quality and least 16oz..if anyone knows of better strain thats better for me please give me your thoughts.

hey SQUID got any ideas for c02??& thanks for input and checking into that stuff for me...much appreciated

I wouldn't worry about xtra co2 right now IMO. If you get real dialed in and wanna spend some xtra cash, you can try then. Up to you, just never used it and don't see a lot of folks at all that do use it. :D

That's a big setup..Never heard of those LEDs. It will be nice to have a journal here proving their results. :D

PK is a great strain. I recommend starting your beans in something other than the Ocean Forest as it is too hot with nutes and will most likely burn your seedlings. Get some Fox Farms light warrior or Jiffy seeds starter mix. :D Just plain Ph water for the first 12 days or more.

ok thanks...it should be here monday ill post pics when i set everything up
