Lighting Venturing into LED territory soon. Need help.

I don't think you'd be going wrong with the Mars II for the space you have. My space is 81cm X 81cm X 160cm and I'm using a Reflector series 96X3w light from the same company that makes the Mars II series and it's 180 actual watts, you can see from my last grow it does the trick and the Mars II is substantially stronger. As far as distance, when you start out you'll want to be as close to a meter as you can get from the tops, once the plants have come out of the first couple weeks you can start to move it closer, upto around 60 cm away. I'm using all metric because I assumed by your post you do, hopefully it wasn't a bad assumption ;-) Whichever way you go with your lights man I wish you luck, I don't think you'll have to worry too much about heat if you're used to CFLs the LEDs at least the two I have, don't get nearly as hot as my 125w CFL did.

4'/122cm Height and width. Depth is 2'/60cm

Im trying to figure out what would be sufficient LED lighting. I will be supplimenting some light with CFL's Probably 8 25 watt.

Would 2 180 watt ufo's be sufficient? Thats what I was thinking about buying. Perhaps I should shoot for a good 300watt LED to hang in the center. With some side CFL supplementation?

I think height will be a bit of a problem for you as you will need at least 20cm of clearance above the light because of the fans also the light will need to be 30cm above the plant. You might wanna look at the new GN light when it's out in a few weeks as there are no vents on the top so you can mount if flush with the roof of the cabinet.

I'm no expert but I've been running my Mars II with 5cm or 2" of clearance over the light. I am however sucking a whole lot of air through the tent.

@ Chester. Thanks man. I was thinking about getting two 180w actuall pull, and I have around 300 watts(actual draw) worth of CFL's I can always add to suppliment if that wouldn’t be to hot. I have a 6 inch 250CFM exhaust fan. I think that should be enough?

Neko I've been keeping my Mars II 18" or about 45cm above the canopy. That's all the space I have.

Yeah I'm glad tang brought the height issue up.

But IMHO I would not go for higher then those UFO in Wattage.

Most important question that no one has asked is What are the watts on the UFO's your planning on running. 5w 3w 2w or 1w LEDs?

Thats is really important as you have a height restriction and I know Cali light works 5 watts need that distance unless you dont mind bleached tops or you running low # of plants and know how to LST your plants or SCROG. I emailed them a about a year ago and they told me not slam lights down of them as 5 watts can be OP and stress out small plants.

I'm gonna be the Ahole who says 4ft roof cap is rather small, taking into account a 3gal is 10 inchs tall + clearance for LED fans and hangers 6-8in, +12-16 inches for the light assuming your trying to max it.
10+8+15= 33ins of room taken leaving you 12-15inch plants. This is assuming you are relying on a passive air system for your cab and not tryin to squeeze a CF in there. Not saying your in hot water, just saying your gonna be selective in selecting your genetics, it's a little tight for me.

I would say Low Watt per Leds, so you can have a closer distance to the tops(I have seen down to 5-8in without bleaching on 1 & 2watt) come flowering and its cheaper.

The SpacePope has a good point about heat I use a 190cfm fan to remove hot air from my tent. At full speed it will change the air 15 times an hour. My inexpensive vent fans is noisy. If noise is a consideration.

@ Medi hey, its no biggie lol. I dont like using the metric. I just put it up to make it easier for everyone else lol. Im usually pretty baked on here. So, I have to go ok wait...he said 60cm...30cm is about a foot..so he is saying 2 feet. :Cheers::Sharing One:

@ SpacePope. I was unsure before you, and everyone else posted. What it sounds like is perhaps those ufo's 180watters, 2watt LED's would be the better choice considering my space. I do plan on LST'ing the higher growing strains. This is massive compared to what Im growing in right now

Neko, My Mars II light uses 5W LEDs. TopLED has 3W versions which probably kicks out less heat. You'll figure it out. BTW I love your use of emoticons.Woops

Topled Ufo with the 3watters would be better than the 2 watters ebay crap ufos. Or the Vipar 180w Ufo is also good.I use a 180 w Topled in the small Tent and it works out only when it gets colder i might need the extra cfl in there for the heating.
