I have been growing photo periods with cfl's for a while now. I am going to start some autoflowers soon.

Anyway I was at Lowes and saw some Lights of America led workshop lights that were 4ft long and rated at 4200 lumens at 40watts actual draw. Pretty cheap around $50.00.

Would those work for a 3ft x 3ft tent ?

They would, in a way.
Get the 3ft bars(so they fit in your tent, also check the lumens first) and combine some cool and warm whites, for example 5 ww and 3 cw would do for total 320watts.

However there are better options for the money.

Thanks for the input....what would be a better way for the money? I may go with a larger space if it doesn't cost a lot more. Any info is appreciated.

The best option would go the DIY route with cxb or vero cobs.
PM me if you're interested in details on building such lights.
