New Grower Yield Compared to photoperiod

didnt read all replies so if i repeat something then im sorry

my take is this ,,,,,,

when it comes to the new age bigger autos (especially from DP) you wont yield nearly as much from a photo grown the same amount of time

i dont know any photo strain including critical mass that produces 1 pound plants seed/clone to harvest in approx 3 months

peace

This is what my original feelings were from all the journals I have followed but I have only grown 1 sour diesel photo veged for 4 wks and it yielded 1oz under the same conditions as 6 Dutch passion autos averaged 74g per plant. The best strain I have seen produce consistently is Critical Mass and I was going to switch to that over think different in search of the ultimate yield but now I'm not so sure again.

Everyones opinion before you in this thread seams to be at odds with you though. I suppose the question it still comes down to is will a strain like critical mass, veged for 6 wks and blooming for 8ish wks, significantly out produce a think different that finishes a whole month earlier thus saving you time and leading to an extra 2 grows a year

Itsnineteen84, how many plants are you going to grow? I see you are very much concerned about yield per plant, if you are cash cropper, than yield per m2 per month will perhaps be more important for you.

I have tried autos and photos and chosen autos, Think Different, I grow only this strain because it is very resilient, grows nicely, looks nicely, not to stinky and last but not least, makes nice firm buds with very nice smell and taste.

I am now trying to find the right density of plants in my place, must tell you that I had started with to many plants/m2/lights, had a lot of streching, now I make the density lower and lower to discover the hot spot. Then I will start to SCRoG.

Since I am not familiar with monsters I think that for me is better to grow more smaller plants. Maybe for you too.

One more thing that I experience with autos is bad genetics - I throw away a lot of phenos and I am ready with new seeds instead. Have experienced, that some of auto genetic material is simply not good enough if you do not use plants for decoration only. Autos have very short lifetime and anything that is not very good genetics fails at the end. Disappointment and waste of time and money. Chosing between many phenos is a must if you want a decent yield. I have learned that seeds that brake the last will rarely grow better than others so I throw them away. I plant the rest, after two days I see that one plant is mutant. I throw it away. After a month or so I see that one plant does not develop buds as others and there are not enough budsites so it goes out and makes place for a new life.

I never know to quantify yield in m2 or per plant but m2 is probably the best way to measure what I'm trying to achieve.

I was thinking 6 Think Different per cycle would fill out a scrog net in the 2.5m2 space.

I have a dr240 and a dr120 tent (so 3.5m2 overall) so I would be trying to set up a scrog in the dr240 and use the dr120 to enable an almost perpetual grow cycle by switching the veging think differents to the larger tent when the previous grow is finished and then cracking more beans.

I had also thought about buying more seeds than I need and pulling the weakest. I pulled 1 of the 7 TD's on my last run and im glad I did

no it wont , and im speaking from experience , i grew critical mass comercially for 3-4 years , my mother plant was so big it had an 8X6X8ft room to herself and she filled it entirely , id cut 200 clones at a time and you wouldnt even notice it

the photo plant will not out yield the modern BIG autos in the same amount of time , one month veg and 2 months flowering a critical mass will not get you what a dutch passion auto will

PERIOD

This is exactly the information I was looking for man, so thank you!

I'm glad you are speaking from experience because good information straight from the horses mouth like this is so hard to find and invaluable in the long run.
