Grow Mediums 1 gal pots vs 5gal pots

The thread to which you refer to was talking specifically about coco and using a drip system the smaller pot allowing more frequentl watering though this is also true I have found for hand watering again let's make this clear this assumption should not be made for soil ,, anyways here are two Tyrone's ain't sure what age but same, one is in a 3lites pot and one grown in a 6 litre ,same nutes same coco mix ,just the smaller pot dried out quicker and ended up getting fed more often

I hear you about they become a pain hand watering waxi I originally had it in a smaller pot to keep her size down

that is very interesting to see them side by side like that. I will def consider downsizing from 3 gal pots to something smaller in my next grow

Well it surprised me,but at end of day I am a new grower, waximus posting is the one with the real information in,but glad seeing the two pots together for comparison helps

I just have a bit of experience under my belt
I too was astonished with the growth from a 1 gal! It doesn't make sense if you think of coco as soil. With soil, its generally.. bigger pot bigger plant. With coco, its all about a great root system, and if you have an efficient and well fed/oxygenated rootball in a 1 gal pot, BOOOM!! lolol
I just cleaned up a few 1 gal pots from my last run, and the rootball is the ENTIRETY of the pouch! That's why the magic happens

This is making good reading for me. I Have a plant in the garden in a 15L pot in soil and I have 2 other's in coco in 5L pots. In a couple of weeks I'm intending to move the coco plants to bigger pots (15L) when I get some pennies. But now I shall reserve judgement on that. The soil pot is now 6ftish and the other two 4-5ftish. I've only been watering the coco one a day but now might up this to two. Soil watering as and when needed with rainwater mostly but tap water lately.

is it important to get smart pots and stuff like that or are regular pots just as fine?

A regular pot will make the roots wrap around the inside of the pot, which doesn't let them feed as efficiently and can lessen growth compared to a smart pot. The smart pot prunes the roots when they get to the pot, and the root responds by branching out within the pot.
Another thing I love about smart pots/pouches is that you can rinse them (thoroughly) and reuse them 4-5 times, minimum. Since using the root pouch brand of smart pots, I wouldn't go back, other than to try a different technique They rock!

how big of a grow room do you have?

I think it really depends on your goals and available height.

I grow in a 4 x 2 x 5 tent (5 is the height) so it's only 2 feet deep.
I grow in 2 gal equiv. airpots and I have a plant that is making contact
with the front and back walls, so it's obviously "maxed out". So If I were
to run 3 gal. or 5 gal., the plants would be to full and too tall.

The other consideration is cost/benefit based....

If you are willing to settle for smaller plants as it relates to the cost
of the bean, then I think that 1 gallon pots (air or smart pots to be sure)
offer the best ability to grow variety. Much greater utility of available space.
And less medium, less nutrients, less water.

All depends on what you're looking for, what environment you have available,
and what you consider "acceptable" for yield/bean.
