Lighting 250w HPS on seedlings

Hey guys

I germinated last night. This is my third attempt and my two babies are going straight into their 11ltr homes shortly.

There could be a combination of factors for my previous failures. But I want to rule out my lighting.

Is a 250w HPS on my seedlings going to be ok. If so how close should I have it?

Just high enough so when you hold your hand at the top of your plant you cant feel ant heat from the light.

Hey namvet! So it's completely ok to veg under hps? I'm thinking it's a lot easier than dealing with different lights.

I use a 250 hps all the way through. Start at 24" and like nam said the hand test is a sure way to make sure ur not too close.

I have no problems starting my seedlings from start under a Hps, bearing in mind I do use a dual bulb though. Regardless u should be fine and should only get a bit of stretching. Cool tubes are perfect. What reflector are you using grow space ECT ?

150w hps here then 600w mh. I find if you really throw the seedlings in rough conditions, well, lets say thriving growing conditions they aren't subject to shock and change from going from cfls to hid. I also do this with nutes.

Hey there, i'm currently on Day 10 of my new grow and decided to try my hand at hydroponics and was just wondering if anyone could give me some advice on my lighting.

I currently have the plants under a 125w LED, but i originally planned to have them under a 250w dual spectrum hps (newly bought so kinda wanna use it).

The only thing is i am growing in a tent thats 0.9m x 0.5m x 1.6m and i'm scared that it might get too hot in there with a 250w hps. I did originally put this light in first but the temps shot up and i was too scared for my seedlings so i swapped to the LED. Anyways would this light be suitable for a tent of this size or would it get to hot? Or is it just a case of getting a small clip on fan for inside the tent?

you just said you tried it and it got too hot...So.. Its too hot to answer your question... You could, again, put it in and monitor temps. They don't die instantly at high temps. If it goes over take it out and go back to led or something smaller...

OR You could increase exhaust rate, intake rate, intake temp, humidity, circulation, ac, chillers, etc to get the temps. So no, its not too hot to answer your question.
