So been creeping around this site and a few others for a few months. Finally decided on what I'm wanting to do. I'm going to pick a couple of auto strains and grow(in soil) them in a small tent with CFL's. I've taken quite a few classes dealing with botany/horticulture due to my major in college so I should be able to handle this. I plan on filtering the intake as well as the exhaust. If anyone would like to answer a few questions I would appreciate it.

1. Best filter/fan combo. (bang for buck)
2. Favorite Strain(strength over high yields, but both would be nice haha)
3. Mention anything you think I should know, since after all I am a newb :(

Thanks guys! :peace:

Ohhh and there will be a journal.

Congrats on taking the plunge longball! Be forewarned, it can be addictive...:D

1. I personally prefer PHAT filters, and Dayton or Panasonic Whisper Quiet fans...probably Dayton with a small rig...bit more pricey, but sometimes you get what you pay for...:2cents:

2. I'll leave that to the auto guys, since I'm more of a photo guy...

3. The most common newbie mistakes are overwatering and overfeeding, once you get your environment right. I'd go for a simple medium and nute regime, soil/soilless mix in individual containers, and Lucas formula for nutes...General Hydroponics is a tried-and-true line. Easy to use, and to find. There's a one part nute for veg, and another one part for flowering, that people here seem to like a lot, from a company called Sea Grow. Apparently Cal/Mag is needed in conjunction, sometimes with Lucas formula also. Not a bad supplement to have on hand.

Really my best advice is pick a direction as far as your rig, medium, nutes, and strain. When you have decided all that, come back, post pics, and report your progress every few days...we'll guide you through it, bro!

Ahh thanks for the replies! I'll be sure to check out the recommendations!

So since you aren't an auto man. what are your favorite photo strains? I'll be getting into that a little next fall when I have a more suitable environment.

Thanks again!

Well, my favorite photo strains and what I'd recommend for a first-time grow are slightly different...;)

Some personal faves...ECSD, Sativa-leaning DJ Short stuff, High Rise (org. Smoke-A-Lot) Grape Hashplant and its' crosses...

What I'd recommend for a first-time photo grow? Something primarily indica, resilient, and well known, or easy to communicate with breeder.

Some examples I have worked with or seen personally in past few years would be...

Mazar, Hashplant Pearls, Heri Berry, Freezeland crosses

Some more common textbook bulletproof strains...

Northern Lights, Afghani, Herijuana, Hindu/Master Kush

Hey lonball.

Looks like a 60 x 60 to me so id say 4 autos roughly. Im runnung a 150 x 150 and have 9 but im thinking of downsizing to 90 x 90 and il probably try squeeze 6 in there under my 600hps

But bare in mind im a complete noob myself so someone with more experience might be able to help you out a bit better
