Lighting AFNs live LED help thread.

I really appreciate it, man.

I'm assuming that the problem is one or more bulbs/diodes, and perhaps someone can give me a little hope and something to try before I totally give up on the BS.

I'm not in a position to receive mail much less pay for real service, hence I'm trying to DIY it.

Thanks again.

I could use some critical help with my Black star 240UV, not the newest ones, bought maybe 2 years ago or more now, not used the whole time but a good portion of it, so maybe I was due for trouble.

First I had the helf-panel problem, and read the fix on that. But somehow during disassembly (all those screws?) and a thorough cleaning the panel won't light up at all now, which is freaking me out because the BS is my main flowering light and has done fine so far.

I can verify that both drivers are OK as I was able to switch drivers and test before somehow the whole thing went to shit.

My soldering skills suck but I can try to practice. I only have a basic soldering iron and solder due to financial restrictions. I also have a basic multimeter. I will try to get some desoldering braid or a turkey baster or something like that to remove solder.

The thing is that when I check voltage or whatever the diode setting measures, there are several spots where the measurement is very different from the other diodes.

I really have no idea what I'm doing esp. Reg. Electronics, but I can follow step by step directions and at this point I either get the light working somehow, even with several jumpers, because this light has to run or I am in big trouble...

There are LED shops in town believe it or not, and they could probably diagnose and fix it for me, but I can't afford it right now and I need the light to make ends meet...you see the downward spiral this might cause.

Sorry if this is not the right place to post, but I'm desperate and ready to try your suggestions.

Thank you!

Ok bro..... Retrace your steps and take apart your unit and put it back together again. While you have it apart test it and see if it comes on. Also be careful when you put the unit back together not to pinch any wires, better yet secure your loose wires inside the unit with some tape (electrical tape)or whatnot so that when it is back together none of the wires have a chance to short out on something. Get some desoldering braid and clean your points up, if they are messy that could be your issue as well. Good luck bro :goodluck:

I assume this is the thread you have read https://www.autoflower.org/f1...240-31468.html it's all I can find to help I'm afraid.

Yeah, but I will review it as it's been a few weeks now and I need to get my head back in it. I had to wait until I could afford the supplies n battery...I am so broke it's funny, sort of.

Thanks for being so helpful, if I somehow got it working I'd worry less.

Awesome, thanks man!

Right now it is disassembled. The board is separated from the metal plate and I resoldered the red/black power cables to the board.

I can plug it in and the fans go.

I tested voltage at those points where i resoldered the power wires to the board with power on and there was power at 130v or whatever is written on the drivers, I'll test that again to be sure.

So I'm wondering if I can test voltage or other things at certain points around the board to try to eliminate options and narrow in on the problem.

I could have done a horrible soldering job and I may very well have loosened a wire, but how do I test for that?

It was lighting up with a half panel up until I figured out I had to peel off the reflector and undo all those screws. I tugged a bit on it until I realized, but not too bad...

I will get braid and possibly better solder tonight or tomorrow...I live in a remote area and hoof it to the nearest public transport, but I'm psyched to tackle this with your guidance, no pressure or anything heh heh :P

I got some new solder, flux, and a desoldering pump. I'm going to practice my soldering a bit and then clean up my previous solders and see where that leads me.

I'll check in after that...thanks.

Quick Question with a 300 w LED 3w*100 6 Spectrum. How much supplemental CFL's is too much I have 4 23w 27K and 2 23w 65k... Is that too much. How many hours a day should I supplement them. I am using them for UVB supplementing. I have the plants on 17/7 hours. I have a very strong indica strain Im trying to appease.

hiw big is the room bro? You wanna aim for about 40w per 1ft2.

I got 2x4 foot tent and Im lookin for some good panels for it. What light and what power would you recomend? Do I need CFL for LED panels to fulfill spectrum?
