Whats up guys,

I thought I'd post some entries for my first grow for some advice and other beginners to look at when it's finished.

This is going to be a discrete closet grow done pretty cheaply.

I germinated and planted two Dutch Passion Auto Mazar seeds into two fairly large pots. I'm using soil as a growing medium. The soil is a Durston multi purpose compost from a local store. It has Perlite in it.

The seeds had a small tap root when I finished germinated them out the soil (in a glass of water and then paper towels for a day each).

I put the soil in the pot dry and made a hole about 1/2 to 3/4 inch deep which I then put the seeds in root down with tweezers and covered the hole with soil.

This is two days now they've been in the soil and nothing has broken the surface yet although I wouldn't have expected them to. I'm hoping tomorrow or the following day they sprout.

I've been misting the soil with tap water in a spray bottle a few times a day.

They're in the bottom of my cupboard in the dark atm till they sprout then I'm going to put in a couple of CFL bulbs I have around the house in what lamps I can find.

I think I'll buy some bulb socket leads soon when the plants get bigger which I can hang over the clothing rail so they are above the plants instead of raised by lamps.

Cheers

Welcome to AFN mate. Shouldn’t be too long before she appears. Best of luck with your grow. Just cos it’s a cheap grow doesn’t mean it will be average. Hopefully the good peeps here can help you deal with any issues that arrive [emoji1303]

Cheers for the kind words lads.

Yeah Archie I spent ages choosing a strain. It seemed sturdy and fairly idiot proof with great yield potential and a good smoke. Drawbacks are the long maturation time and potential for it to grow too tall, not ideal for a discrete grow. Plus I hear sometimes it smells very potent. That's going to be an issue I run into in a few weeks as I share a house currently but I'm sure it'll be fine.

I'll post some photos shortly...

Added a hand for approx. size reference of the pots. They are plastic. I won't be transplanting as I hear this is a bad idea with autos so I went straight into these pots instead of smaller ones I also bought for the initial seedlings.

:welcome: Hi @Gatti1605 and welcome to AFN! :welcome:

A couple of suggestions. A clear plastic cup will hold humidity once she sprouts and will help hold moisture until she does! Also, we have a section for introductions here. https://www.autoflower.org/forums/live-introductions.35/
You can do an intro and leave a link to this grow and it will bring more traffic here! Just a thought and :greenthumb: good luck with your grow! :headbang:

Great advice, thank you very much.
I saw other people use cups before and I considered it but in the end I figured I wouldn't bother risking it as i'm new to this incase I messed it up somehow. I figured nature doesn't use cups so I'd just stick to the basics...
I'll go buy some cups and give it a go tomorrow if they don't sprout.

I cut off the bottom of clear plastic bottles, works for me. I would have thought your babies would need more water than a mist, since you didn't soak your pot. How moist was the soil when you started? I was already damp it should be fine but if it was bone dry , it may need a dribble on the seed location.
Great advice, thank you very much.

Back when I started plants in their final pot is the last time I used that technique, but just for the first 4 or 5 days. Now I start plants in double solo cups. I cut the bottom out of the inside cup, (along with some slots cut out in the sides). The outer cup has drain holes and you feel with your favorite medium, wait 10 - 14 days and plant the inner cup and all in the final medium. Btw, I don't fill my cup up all the way. That way I can put a piece of plastic with a rubber band over the top to hold moisture that way! I have seeds soaking now and if you want to follow and see the details, just click the Growpita link in my siggy and I will be posting the process in the next day or two! :headbang:

I was thinking the same thing about needing more water. Cheers for leaving a post. I figured it's better to under than over water incase you drown them. I think I'll lightly water them now and then do the bottomless paper cup tomorrow morning.
