New Grower Autoflowering @ F1 on photo/auto cross

Wiz.. Do you tend to work exclusively with auto-flowering varieties? Maybe it has something to do with intention? Many of us will know from experience that plants thrive well in thriving environments and happy plants live with happy people. Since we have such a close relationship with these plants we are indeed communicating with them on a daily basis upon providing for them and it's perhaps possible therefore that our external interference may to some extent determine the genetic predisposal. In the bigger picture it would seem the horticulturalist achieves what he wants from his life-stock as if directly through his ongoing commitment to preparation.

Since breeders have examined closely the characteristics and behavior of each successive generation they know from experience the genome like a personality and can to some extent 'predict' various outcomes of future breeding projects. If this is the case, then perhaps there is some truth to what Torch was saying earlier in the thread regarding genetic memories. It's Interesting that we, in the process of cultivation shape and engineer the outcome of so many of the plant's characteristics by exposing them to a particular set of environmental parameters. It is perhaps by external interference that we reawaken these memories in the genome increasing the probability of their selection. Breeders that breed predominantly for photo varieties will apply techniques used to cultivate photo-varieties and thus will favor the natural selection of these traits.

This is by no means in reference to any specific study.. It's just a thought :D

i only Joke , i like your thinking (haze?lol)

Sorry for jumping in late... Yet another mugger. Anyhow. Ive got a Pineapple Express photo female that got down and duurty with my Duurtie male. I saw seeds on her today. Ill letcha know what becomes of the offspring, if anyone cares. I wasnt intending on crossing the 2, or trying to automate the PE- She was in the same unit as my Duurtie girls that I intentionally pollinated and she musta got some too.

Haha.. Sorry guys i know nothing about breeding - had my head in the clouds that day.. I can't even figure out what i was jabbering on about.. Clearly too much asian haze ... Haha..

Many strains will flower @ 24hrs which are not auto. Males more than females. But will they completely flower is the question...........

i know i see in non autoflowering strains lot of males flowering under 24 light
but what are they if they flowering under 24 light ? and what are autoflowers?
please explane beter my english is not so good

I too have seen auto-flowing in the F1. It is mostly seen when you outcross to early flowering indicia strains.

If you are breeding autos and you use Medallion’s simple recessive model, you will do just find.

But if want to get technical Medallion’s simple recessive model is not the right model for Day-Neutral/Auto-flower. The best model I have found is {“Fisher” Gene Model for Two Loci Each With Two Alleles} MODEL IV Complex

do you have the principles of plant breeding (either issue) in pdf format? I just had a look on the kindle book store and it cost more than her kindle did!! although good books come at a premium

To add to Trifid's day in clouds, Luther Burbank believed that your intention with a plant did 'direct' the plant to grow for what you're are breeding for...it worked for him at least :D

This is just a simple question and not one that requires referring me to esoteric test books. Opinion is fine. Does it matter if you are using a male photo for the female photo with an auto where the sole purpose is to turn the offspring into autos?

I have two questions on this. Did you save the pollen from the male of the first cross to breed it back too or did you grow a new male from seed? I don't know what it is called but the other option is to breed the same cross with two different pairs of parents from the save strain and then breed their offspring to each other. Which did you do?

Did you use the photo as the male or the female and do you think it makes a difference?

Wiz in my experience there are photos that are more receptive.
I have seen autos in the F1 only a couple of times.
The photos used where real early strains.
Photo strains that finished outdoors in 100 days from seed.
And the percent I saw was usually around 20%.

I believe there several genes that are linked.

I also believe you have a better chance at seeing autos in the F1, with a indica vs. a sativa.

In general I do not see autos in the F1, but usually in the F2.

Some strains it took me F4 or more to lock down 100% auto.
There was one strain that had 20% auto in the F1, I crossed those, and they were fully auto in the F2.
