Hi guys. I am thubten and I just started using med. not long ago. Below is how I grew it, but I did not know there was THIS extent of info out here about this! I stopped using drugs and alcohol 30 years ago, but find myself in ill health and needing pain and sleep medication. I tried this and it is fabulous and makes me feel much better. I have arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic tendonitis, and other things. I want to start using my greenhouse this week to start my auto seeds which I am starting today. I am going to start more next week, then another few the following week. Tell me, who grows in a greenhouse with natural light? Autos, of course.

I am looking to grow medicinal for self use in my greenhouse starting now. I have a bunch of auto seeds which "say" they are feminized (debatable) and I do have heat for night. Normally, we don't get serious hard freezes, but it does freeze and get down to 32. I can keep my greenhouse 20 degrees warmer than the outdoor temps so even at 27, the greenhouse will remain 47. Is that warm enough at night?

Our light is 12/12 based on sunrise/sunset, but of course this is winter sun. I do live in the center/south of the country (US) so in a few weeks solstice will give me more light daily.

Also, I did grow some plants last summer which I harvested in Nov. and wow! Who knew? However, I did not fuss about nutrients, or anything. I provided excellent soil I mixed myself using organic compost made in wind rows, inoculated with mychorrizae, actinomycetes, worm castings, greensand, decomposed granite, granular 8-2-4 certified organic fertilizer and I mis that all into the very sterile bale of sphagnum peat moss and water it. I only used rain water on the plants and occasionally used liquid seaweed drench or foliar spray feeding using seaweed, black strap molassas, epsom salt and a bit of hydrogen peroxide.

I had wonderful results. I harvested 1/4 pound from 9 very tiny plants. I don't think they were autos because a friend sent me the seed from his regular hybrids, but I planted them very late in the season so they may have been stunted.

Anyone else going to grow in a greenhouse?

peace,
thubten :peace:

Hello and way to go! I'm starting my first grow in many many years also. I'll be doing a grow journal here, hope you do too. I'm using cannabis for pain also. I've had 2 back surtgeries and every treatment known to modern medicine, also done acupuncture ( which did help ). I've been in chronic pain since i was 36 and am almost 63 now. Then to top it of, I had a car accident in 2008 that messed up my neck, left me with 3 bulging disks in my neck. Because I'm retired now and don't have to worry about drug testing I decided it was time to see if this would help. And IT DOES! So from what I've been reading here, you've come to the right place to get good information and meet some nice people.

Welcome to the family, thubten! :tiphat:
Lots of medical growers and users here, so glad you landed in the right spot! :gthumb:
In fact, the medical section https://www.autoflower.org/forum.php#medical-forum would be a great place to start your journey.
It focus's on more than just the mj side of health, including the healing benefits of sodium bicarbonate, magnesium chloride, canna oils and rubs
The new growers forum https://www.autoflower.org/f44/ would be the place to start a grow log. A lot of very good folks keep their eyes out there to help you along.
Is there any way you could increase your temps and light cycle?

Salutations ThubTen,

...who grows in a greenhouse with natural light? ... I am looking to grow medicinal...

The few newbie autofem sessions i was able to complete a couple years ago were done inside the house on a window sill, using nothing but sunlight. Being located up north these were beyond modest but still the ones i appreciated most because spider mites changed my plans dramatically afterwards. Here's what appeared to be suitable for me in any case, although this doesn't directly compare to greenhouse environments:Bottom watering was said to prevent nutrients leaching while an air layer above my water tanks provided indirect oxygenation for roots, then i found that aquarium rocks helped to maintain a moist permeable surface under and this also appeared to eliminate formation of repulsive dull-yellow coatings... As for the mylar reflector it nearly doubled sunlight exposure.

...the greenhouse will remain 47. Is that warm enough at night?

Most unfortunately i don't have access to a greenhouse but my encounter with The Borg made me curious about temperatures so i finally fought them (almost successfully but much too late) at approximately 73 degrees Fahrenheit (23 degrees Celcius), 64 degrees Fahrenheit (18 degrees Celcius) being the minimum i'd want to attempt at night: low-temperature growing affects yield after all.

Our light is 12/12 based on sunrise/sunset, but of course this is winter sun.

My window sills never provided more than 10 hours and this was on June 21st if i moved my plants 3 times each day, which prompted me to add a supplement using CFLs. My plan was to build an hybrid "docking station" cabinet to compensate for cloudy episodes but that's when the mites ruined my humble project. As a result, having no proper mobility i grew a few plants under CFLs exclusively and found that in reason of the open structure i could hardly give my plants more than 14 to 18 hours of artificial light unless i didn't care about my neighbours noticing the intense glow through a window...

So, what i'm saying i guess is that you may want to add 2 to 6 hours since the "auto" plants won't wait for sunnier days: deficits add up daily and there's no looking back. With this in mind i'd delay germination by a couple months unless this is no big issue; otherwise another possible trade-off would be to expect lighter harvesting.

Considering you seek medicinal applications though, it may seem more appropriate to just plan for vegetative growth and aim for raw juicing instead, or even better: high-CBD strains show relief potential while avoiding some disruptive impacts from psycho-active effects.

If you're concerned about getting busted then it might be a good idea to have few or no flowers around. Also, instead of large batches i'd favour starting sessions at intervals, re-using your buckets in perpetual rotations.

But lets be clear: thanks to my parasitic visitors i never actually managed to get there and fully evaluate all this...

...I did not fuss about nutrients, or anything. I provided excellent soil I mixed myself using organic compost made in wind rows, inoculated with mychorrizae, actinomycetes, worm castings...

Sometimes too much can prove to become as nuisible than not enough. My use of worm castings eventually caused me to observe signs of nitrogen burns i believe. So, that's something i'll only start using late after flowers showed up since my soil usually seems adequate, initially...

I harvested 1/4 pound from 9 very tiny plants.

Here in my country it used to be a lesser "offense" to grow 1 to 5 plants as juges still had some room left to interpretation, no matter what the plant's size would happen to be. In addition, i was recently reminded there are places where "stoners" fear loosing their house besides freedom and family, not to mention the fact that those who resist expose themselves to an even darker fate - i'm thinking of the William Reddie case triggered by a CPS intervention.

Consequently you may want to evaluate the legal implications relatively to size, especially in presence of children as this turns anti-cannabic warriors into potentially threatening bullies...
