Extraction Beware of cheap glass tubes

Hey everyone so I've been making bho for about 3 years now and thankfully have never had any dangerous mishaps til today. The tube that I have claims to be a 28 gram tube but I like to put about 12 at the most. This time I set aside about 14 grams which seemed to fit okay in the tube. Then I slowly started to blast the butane through and it didn't really seem to be going through so I blew into the hole and it seemed like no air was coming through. So I tried to blast a little more through and the tube exploded shooting glass and bud all over the place. My first instinct was to check to seem if any of the glass got me luckily it all missed me other than a tiny shard in my arm. I love bho probably more than anyone but when something like this happens it really makes you think if its worth it or not

Yikes! Where I live I really don't a have a choice but to make some if I want some. Safety is always number 1. My friend doesn't make oil without gloves and safety/sunglasses just for that reason... u never know what might happen. Glad your ok tho!

Thanks man :smokebuds: I have no problem getting wax at all in fact I pay about $20 per g but honestly I'd rather make it myself so I know what's going in and what's coming out. The next thing I wanna try is making ice wax which is safer to make and soluble free so a much cleaner smoke as well :thumbs:

I would stay away from sometthing that is dangeruos and could cause injuries.

Sorry that happened to you, I'm glad you're alright. It happens sometimes when air/your gas can't escape, so pressure just keeps building and building. If it helps QWISO can make an awesome, safer and cheaper extract, though it can be tricky to avoid grabbing chlorophyll and it doesn't always grab all of the terpenes. I've had QWISO that had virtually zero flavor; vaping/smoking it was kind of boring, but it took minutes, needed no flushing at all, and was still potent as hell. Acetone can work great, too, you just need to find a source for reagent grade material. I'd rather use iso personally, as it's cheap and finding reagent grade iso is easy as hell. Stay safe whatever you do, and you may have just moved me to metal tubes.

316 is the only stainless that is food grade. Impurities can be leached from steel and thats is the reason they started coating cans with BPA, because the zinc was being leached. Now BPA is worse than zinc, I realize, but regardless steel will definitely corrode and begin leaching impurities. So how safe is it? or can be, is an unknown.

There is a reason us homebrewers use only 316 or copper. Anything else is considered unsafe for alcohol. I figure if it is unsafe for drinking, it has to be unsafe for smoking.

The general consensus between us mods is that steel is a poor choice.
