Harvest & Curing Boveda 62%

I'm not sure, but I think if you dry too fast the water gets ripped out agitating the other compounds and sticking to everything.. and the slower the water gets pulled out the least damage is done on those cellular levels. That's my guess anyway, I've looked it up before but couldn't find any scientific stuff.

How long does it take for a 62% pack to get a sealed container up to 62%?

I have 2 hygrometer equipped one-quart mason jars mostly filled with over dried herb. Without the Bovedas the RH was 47-53%. After 12 hours with an 8 gram packet each I have a jar with 22 grams within reading 55% and a jar with 16 grams reading 58%. I'll check back later today to see if it creeps up. I thought they're supposed to get the rh to the prescribed levels regardless the dryness of what's contained within.

Bottom line, I want confidence I'm getting 62% consistently without having to check it with hygrometers all the time.

Thats when I jar mine up man.I never go to the stem snapping point...ever...way to dry.yer gonna have crappy ole weed like I did for a couple yrs.aint fun..lol.buzz is there.just not a pleasure to smoke.makes fer excellent oil however.:Medibles:

I think if your talking about the chemical and physical reaction about the cannabis, isn't that part of the decabring aspect of curing the cannabis?I always thought it was about pulling the essential oils, terps n so forth out from the deeper parts of the plant near the stems n to finally level out the water content to about 10% and get it to maintain that and stew(if ya will) and drop that water molecule and stabilize the moisture level.Heat or Time.curing is time.

When Ive over dried mine and tried jarring it,the longer it sat jarred as I was trying to cure it,the bad tastes n smell n so on were literally cured into it.Jus I wasnt about to try n smoke tumble weeds. There is a certain amount of gasses that have to expel and if dried to quickly, thats a chemical process that will be inbedded into the plant matter on some level imo.so the only way to get rid of the imo is to either over dry it to where you can use it as kindling ,which would suck..lol. or water cure it.there may be other ways but to do it decent the first time lessens the lame experience of smoking well grown buds that smell n dont taste all that awesome.

If my flowers ,herbs or anything I was trying to maintain at 62% and was over dried,Id use two packs.the quality control on them if left to level out and take up the moisture.it needs to be given a week and atleast two pack imo.but thats just what Id do.if its dry.get that moisture in there.2 packs should work for super dry stuff really well if ,again, given a lil time and atleast two of the 8 Gram packs n left to sit for a week.I would think they have done enough R n D and quality control on them they are quite effective.Ive tested em as many others have and they are spot on in my dealings. But ta be honest, jus stick two of em in there n let it sit.you can stick a small hygrometer in there, but dont watch it like a hawk.just go away n come back in a week.:Sharing One: check it...n give it more time if ya want.Id give it more like 2 weeks.but to level out will take about a week or so Id think.

Thats when I jar mine up man.I never go to the stem snapping point...ever...way to dry.

The snapping thing is not going to be my go to test ever again. Never. F'd me up. Got a good oil recipe?

Hi Guys,

I will experience some time problems later this year and maybe boveda packs could save me from a lot o trouble. In the worst case I have 5-7 days after harvest befor I have to leave for two weeks. I know that under these conditions I can not expect a good cure but I'd like to know if I could do the following to do at least a bit of curing and have mold savety.

Drying for max. of 7 days, then putting buds in jars with 62% bodeva packs. From that point in noone has access to the jars so it is super importanr that no mold can form.

Is this possible in any way? If yes, to what point do I have to dry my buds befor putting them in jars? Can I expect any curing effect over those two weeks? How about continuing cure after the two weeks?
If someone has a completely different idea I'd like to hear it to, maybe via PM to keep the thread on topic :)

Have a great day folks,
buzzy

So if I understand you right your going to harvest and dry your plant and then very soon after that yer going on a trip for a bit..ok no problem..thats easy man dont sweat it.

If you chop your plant and hang dry branches about 12 inches long you should be able to get a decent 5 day dry or there about, and then once you do that.take your trimming scissors and clip all the single buds n slide em into a jar and seal it up for 12 -18 hours then open the Jar and leave it open(always away from direct light,Light degrades THC and cannabinoids) then stick a fresh 8 Gram pak in there and seal it up.you dont have to get that fancy if ya dont want.,just 5 day dry or 6 ,whatever then clip to single buds n stick in a jar with one or two 62% 8 gram packs and seal it up in a cool dark place n you should be fine.2 weeks away?no worries.Ive yet to have a problem as long as your stem in at the a little close to snapping point it'll be plenty dry to sit with boveda paks fer 2 weeks..:Sharing One:

Thanks for the fast and detailed answers you guys! This a huge relief :)

Have a nice evening,
Buzzy

EDIT: Can you tell me if I get a decent smoke with this method? What can I do to enhance it after the two weeks in jars?

Hmmm, not sure really.time is your best bet.but after the 2-4 week deal, you could use an oldschool trick.but you'd have to smoke said bud within a day er so cuz of molds. But you can take a few small pieces of apple and/or oranges a small piece of peel and take the boveda packs out and stick the fruit in a smaller seperate jar with just a little bit.and leave that over night and it lends to a small taste improvement.its been yrs. since ive done that but it works ok.but again,do small bits at a time cuz if stored for a few days you'll have moldy fuzzy buds man.:Sharing One:
