Harvest & Curing Boveda 62%

I'm playing devil's advocate here, a little...

If your normal, ambient RH is below 62% then wouldn't maintaining 62% while drying actually take longer?....and be "more controlled"?

hmm got me confused, so your buds at 62% already i would think that if you just vaulted it for a month with boveda let it flement then should be good product

No, what I was saying (IIRC) is that drying in a non-jarred 12% RH environment would happen very rapidly and over dry the outside while the core was still moist. That by bring the drying
RH to 62%, the bud would be more slowly drying and be more even and controlled.

Although it sounds high, 62% is actually a darn good RH for smokeable buds to be at. I didn't know this, but apparently they did tons of research with dispensaries and users. Some do like it drier, ok cool. Anyways I am very happy with my herb after starting to use these Boveda 62's :) they even brought some life back to some overdried dispensary herb.

So I guess in a perfect world, a perfect bud would be harvested, dried to 62%, burped to relieve the spikes as inner moisture moves outward, but never dropped below 62% if theoretically even possible lol. If it took a week or 4 months lol. 12% I think most would say is danger zone lol. If I understand the theory of curing right, the perfect breakdown of sugars (harshness?) and reaching "dryness" is far better done slowly, like as slowly as possible. But alas, I'm good at theory and still trying to get the practice good haha, so I'll go back and sit in my corner now lol.

I have very limited experience (only 5 grows) but the Boveda technology demonstrably works superbly. Mid August had to harvest the last two of my AutoMazars cos we had to leave for our holidays. Harvested 4 days before we were due to leave. Dried buds in paper bags in shoe boxes for 4 days. Morning we were leaving hygrometer was showing 70% when I jarred them. Popped in a large Boveda 62 and off we went for 20 days. On our return hygrometer was showing 62% and the bud was a joy to smoke. So will now do the same thing with my freshly harvested Buddha Magnums except this time will also pop in a vanilla pod.

I think some people may be getting the Relative Humidity mixed up with Moisture Content. My buds in the jar are at 62# RH and when I had the Moby Dick tested for potency it was 9% Moisture Content. RH is measuring the moisture content in the air of the container and the other is measuring the amount of moisture in the bud.

im a bit of a novice noob, but surly if you have a good rh the moisture in your bud after a good month will be very minimal ...?

Mine tested at 9% Moisture Content of the Bud which is stored in a 62% RH jar.
is that good or bad ?
edit: just found this......
A successfully dried and cured weed contains only 10 percent to 15 percent moisture of which 2 percent to 4 percent is water. This is found to be optimal amount because molds and bacteria can no longer survive in this kind of environment. Mold and bacteria will need a moisture content of more than 15 percent.

Neither. It just is. I would venture to guess that most bud stored at 62% RH would end up close to the same Moisture Content.

ohh i see, yeh ok so thats roughly where we want it, so tis all good brother
